1 Bar Loop Theory

Post by THEGREAT »

not sure if i've posted this at some point in past so bear with ..

a drum pattern over 1 bar is essentially a break ..

alot of Hip.Hop deviated from this structure .. fills n variated patterns .. for example the Rocafella Era . Just Blaze popularised the fills in a beat . The early 90s .. and late 80s was very much 1 bar driven .

producing 1 bar layers and dipping them in and out is probably the tightest structure i have been able to enforce .

This is not gospel .. but very much opinionated .

Ive done 8 bar productions .. it just doesn't give me that classic feel i love from the 90s.

interesting theory.
i like your approach, sometimes a 1 bar or even a half bar of beat (boomboomtchick) is the way to go.

i like to understand that a break is essentially a part that interrupts the song and stands out, like a solo for the drummer... "give the drummer some (space)".

if you arrange a 1 bar loop clever nobody will recognize! and that's a challenge.

1 bar loops are dope but for some reason i always have thought that 2 bar loops are hip hop's gold standard

although yeah back in the early days of hip hop 1 bar loops were the only thing possible p much

My Yamaha AN/DX200s only do 1 bar loops. But you can actually do a lot to not make that boring to the listener. Add swing, play backwards, transpose the synth -24 to +24, and of course changing the synth parameters while it plays.

Parr studied how traffic moves around the city and found that most people fell in love with a bar, go to it and then they go home and tell their friends about it. The bars that people fell in love with are called free pdf tools "bar loops". This theory can also be applied more broadly to other networks such as social media or blog networks.
