SP 808 update via Midi - nothing happens?

Hello,
I am trying to update my original sp 808 with midi file, but nothing happens.
I have sucessully entered the update mode, and I have tried to send the update midi data with many different midi computer software.
But the SP 808 just says "waiting midi". I can confirm that some midi data is sent, because the LED on the midi interface flashes, and also the PAD light on the 808 flashes rapidly.
But nothing happens....

Possible reason, maybe my cheap midi interface from china distorts the midi data?

I finaly got it working. Just to let other know, who want to update Sp 808 to ex.
The trick is that first you need to make sure it is updated to the latest version of original sp 808 OS, only then it will work to update with the sp 808 ex OS.
It will not work if you have the original 1.0 os, first make sure to update with 1.050 and then make the update with Ex Os 1.001

I finally got it working with my Mac for my SP-808 and it now has the SP-808ex OS installed and it's working great!

Hi Chaps,
I have updated to 1.050 and am now trying to update to ex1.001 It is just hanging on Waiting Midi.. although it is receiving a midi signal. The update to 1.050 seemed to work ok, it went through all the steps cool. Is there anywhere on the control screen I can check the firmware version to see if the update to 1.050 worked properly? On the splash screen when it switches on it says groove sampler ver.1.0 Should that be different?

Just tried updating 808 1.050 again, all seemed to work ok. Then tried the ex update again and still no luck. The 808 doesn't seem to recognise the midi signal, the pad light is flashing but it seems to be duller than when I did the 1.050 update. Any idea? I got the update files from the Roland website.

You need the modded EX update for the og 808, from Roland site i guess it's for the EX itself

Thats great, it worked thanks. Shit, now I need to work out what these new effects presets are all about! Interesting how it appears there is some functionality without inserting disks.

Trying to update and the PAD light blinks red but the screen still says "Waiting MIDI..." ? I can't get it to say "Receiving" and I tried the 1.05 update and the modded EX update...
