I work a lot, too much.
This week I put in over 60 hours in a 104 degree kitchen.
When I get home, I'm too tired to work on music. I usually just watch a couple YouTube vids drink some beer and hit the hay.
On my days off I might go record shopping and out to eat.

But my time on the sampler is short-limited.

So, to break the routine I plan on staying up late through the night and work on some recordings.

Anybody ever put a little album together in a day?

I'm on the same boat. Though I've never attempted to create an album in one day.

I think the most I've managed to do in one sitting is 3 or 4 tracks.

I ended up staying up all night recording and made some progress.
Got like 6 loops with interludes and intros in between.
Was sort of happy with self. Got on a roll.
I press record on the tape deck and just freestyle the whole beats process.
Was pulling records off the shelf and just listening real quick skipping through a lot.

It wasn't an album but turned into a dope little EP.

Now I gotta get my stupid laptop repaired and fixed to get on internet so I can download a DAW and edit it.
I got tomorrow off and some cash in my pocket so may have a upload for Bandcamp by end of day.

I'm kind of in the same boat, but I'm finding out that working within time constraints can have it's benefits. I know it helps to get me to keep moving and adding new ideas instead of my tendency to stick on the same sound/beat so long I either ruin it by too much tinkering or it just ends up sounding stale to me.

Good luck man, I'm looking forward to hearing what you come up with

Yeah, I like to keep things moving.
I never got a memory card, cus I know I'd let things sit too long and get tired of it.
Even when I'm done with a track, I don't listen to it. Don't want to get sick of it.

dunno about an album in a day....but after a long week at work if I can get the Mrs away for the night i'll stock the fridge up with beer, nip round to the second hand record shop and splash a coupla quid....then just lock myself in for a deep session.....

I'm in my element then....happy as a pig in shit.....i'll be there all day and all night til stupid o'clock....then when she comes home the next day I'm like a cold turkey crack head...

hoping for one of those sessions this Saturday!....fingers crossed....

I'm not really sure if I could do a whole album in a day.
I know there's cats out there that could.
Just want to be more productive.
I sold a lot of records that were collecting dust. And I bought a bunch of records and was stacking them high next to the sampler.
Wanted to get some work recorded and finally put out a tape. I even got a huge box of blanks and cases ready for cassette release.

But on other hand, it's not all about making the music, but the fun that goes into a jam session.
Sometimes I rock out for hours and never hit the record button.

That's what I'm saying. There are guys that can do a whole body of work in a day.
I can't.
The most I can do is 3 to 6 tracks.
I can probably do a whole bunch of loops if I pick out the right records.
But the majority of my time is spent jumping through a record and getting the sound of the sample right.

Last night I spent like 4 hours just working on a bassline.
For some reason I started the track with the bass.
I lo pass filtered the bassline of a blues record. Then chopped it up and made a loop resample.
Then I recorded it to tape. Then I recorded that back into computer using a tape deck with pitch control and slowed down the tape speed. Then edited it in Audacity.
Then finally recorded that back into 4 track cassette.
I got digging through records to find some drums for it, and maybe a horn sample or guitar lick around the way.
Then I got tired of constantly rewinding and playing drum loops that I didn't even record a second track.
So yeah. 4 plus hours to record a bass loop.

I was at least glad I got something recorded.
The day before I spent a few hours record shopping.
I got my ears so sick of jumping through records on my portable turntable that I didn't even feel like sampling when I got home.
Went to bar instead, got drunk and went home to bed.

That all sounds quite detrimental to creativity.....

I've tried to stop myself from doing shit like that....plenty of times in the past I've spent a whole evening working on one thing, then woke up in the morning and thought it sounded like crap so I've scrapped it.....waste of precious time!

I try to work on something for a bit.....then work on something completely different for a bit.....then if I go back to the first thing and its sounding heavy, i'll work on it and add to it.....

working on one thing for too long is a fucka for skewing your perspective

last Saturday I made like 8 beats, and at the time I liked them all.....but by Sunday I realised only maybe 2 of them are real keepers...

I made MAZINGA FREESTYLE in a night. When I read about MADLIBS crazy all night sessions I decided to do the same. I started at 9 p.m. until 7a.m,made 18 beats...I just went for it and didn't care about the outcome, just pure fun!!!
overthinking is what kills the vibe..

something I find to be more and more true all the time....

just fuckin spaz out and get funky with it.....make a load of shit and just have fun....

don't waste hours trying to perfect one thing because it very rarely works out when something is too contrived like that...

i used to find 5 perfect classic authentic loops, per session and use 1, and forget about the rest, like half an album that works together, then go into digging madness and find to much stuff, to use, then its like a wrench in the gears, i always start a project with some kind of vision, half way into the first track it gets foggy then im left with 10 unfinished songs, but really its a bunch of dope samples i dont want to delete, then go into hoard mode, where i onlyy have 2 open slots, all the time, so if i stumble on a sample, i will make that beat, with all my ammunition backup ready at my fingers, i can do a full 12 banks per song now, backup , wipe, and the backups can really come in handy later, to so dont throw them out if you spent lots of time on something. i think song a day is my pace, even though i can spend upto 2 weeks on a song. mixing it diferent ways , trying diferent things, even remaking it from scratch different ways on other gear.
