M-audio audiophile, no pre amps tho, I thinks there's 2 versions. I used to have one years ago and they sound great, I also used to have a mackey spike this sounded real good and had 2 pre amps, phantom power and software for compression an eq before the audio hit your recording software

ART usb dual pre (what i'm using) $80
also:
steinberg ur22 (super diesel construction) $150
roland duo capture ex (really slick looking) $200
focusrite scarlett 2i2 (very popular right now) $150
not a fan of m-audio (first interface ever circa '03 was m-audio firewire solo)

Re: can anyone recommend a very inexpensive audio interface ?
im talking VERY CHEAP. like cheapest of the cheap
I see a few between $30 and $50 US,
I already have a fine interface (4-in/out 1/4" plus midi in/out) but when I upgraded OSX I learned that there are no drivers/support and won't be ever again.
So my plan is to downgrade OSX back to 10.6.8 but that won't happen soon, and in the meantime I need to hear my tracks... so I can afford to buy something very cheap and when I revert back to 10.6.8 I will keep the second interface for my macbook or find some other use for it

Not sure how good it is, but the Roland Duo Capture is only $50.00 @ SamAsh: http://www.samash.com/p/Roland_DUOCAPTU ... _-49948519
I see a 3.5mm line-in and out.
