Massive Reggae/Soundsystem battles archive

Post by Mr X_J »

Hi all,

I grew up with friends who were so much into reggae/rocksteady/dub that i ended up at Soundsystem Battles in Paris for 3 years, and it was complete war inside this: gaz lacrymo inside until 3am, full of rude boys...all of this disappeared with 15 years of right politics: Chirac then Sarkozy....

Anyway, i just bumped into this soundcloud account with 60 pages of recordings from the craziest Sound System nights over the world such as Killamanjaro Meets Luv Injection Birmingham in UK 1997, or the NYC battle between Blunt Posse & Young Hawk last week...
Am sure you'll find loads of atmospheres, DJ speeches to sample, or if you're into this music your jaws might fall °___°

Enjoy = http://soundcloud.com/mikey-glamour/sets

:shock:

Whoa man! Thank you so much for sharing this. There's some old stuff
there too.

The time you were talking about - going to see soundclashes in Paris. When was
this? Would be cool to hear more stories on this.

Yeah old stuffs man its gooooldmine !!!!

In paris was around 97 if i remember correctly, and one championship was at Globo this club hosted first hip hop party in paris early 80's, also the Espace Massena in south of the town hosted several big stuffs. It was weird or dope atmosphere, sometimes just perfect and audience/dj louder than music if competition, and Dubwize otherwiiiise. We could smoke and get all treees we wanted inside, open mic but also sometimes very rudeboy, defo not roots & as i said it started verrrrrry late, if it started. Most of us left, cause we were obviously the target of gaz and were not at right place ahaaahh anyway part of the game ahahaahha all good in 95 right party took back and since this year they have been in charge, maybe under Chirac was strict and then the other lil ... thing arrived as minister of police so all squatts/workshops/raves closed or forbidden, at least ones i knew, and then those kind of soundsystem when anti smoke laws arrived...plus the cops on it. It was really dark ages for Paris creative cats with the other lil bast*rd
