hahaha i haven't posted any tracks since like 09 for the forum tape or the lyrical fire tape, i totally have intentions of releasing a tape on here at some point, always have since i first started postin and got to hear tapes like the euclid and mostblunted and all the LBJ, but i guess i'm just too critical of my own work, plus i never finish tracks, i always get hung up with change ups and drops and new layers and all that, which is another reason why i think people like the resample method, cause you just start going for it and finish up tracks faster without gettin hung up on all the bullshit, i can't tell you how many hours i've let one pattern loop just touchin up drum hits here and there, thinking it sounds good, letting it loop for another hour, then hearing some other subtle drum annoyance and fixing it further, although if i was doing the resample method i would probably listen to that loop and trip out about mistakes and stuff as well

as for the limiting mode, i see it mentioned from time to time and have never fucked with it, but it looks like i gotta get into it tonight, this forum is too dope

speaking of old tapes..did yall really think that "beird" tape was dope me and detail did in like 08?i go back and listen to it and think most of it sounds like garbage,lol...i was listening to older battle beats i won in 08 too,and damn, they wouldn't have a chance nowadays..with the exception of "i'll son you" they all sound like hot ass...incredible how much sp users, snd users that have been on this site since then have stepped shit up so much,so dope..for example,go back and try to find elhuanas first battle,hahaha...i remember thing wtf, this kid got the most horrible shit i ever heard..now 4 years later he's my boy, calls me from over seas all the time...and his latest release was on the top two pages of bandcamp for like 3-4 weeks,lol....gotta saay i miss juxt, wax,,and antee-though antee reappeared in '10,won one battle, then disapeared again, didn't even post up samples for the next battle,lol...who else?i'm drawing a blank...i def miss arguing with fauna/zombie and flirting with mecha though.also gotta add-though he's not that regular of a contributer, the best sp forums beat maker of all time-- scruffnuck..really good people too..he was sending me beats to spit over last summer, but i flaked out on him,all depressed and shit..his shit is so incredible,i've never heard anyone flip so many amazing samples, that none of which i've ever heard before, and his techniques are perfection.wish he would get a chance to be on a level with someone like dibiasi..then again, maybe thats his choice, who knows,i mean the guy just recently got a facebook and soundcloud, and no one actually knows what he looks like.sometimes i feel the same..shit sometimes the reason i dont put any music out is cause i feel like people don't deserve to hear it.

What? Dude, you're getting loads of votes in the recent beat battles. People like your stuff!

Without a doubt this little community has gotten my producing skills waaay better too. Pretty much everyone here can relate to what you've said.

Oh yeah, nice thread hijack too, a.D.!

admbmb wrote:I dont really dig the vinyl sim comp for bus compression. I like using the flutter effect on samples, and occaisonally give em a little comp as I am sampling, but I much prefer the regular compressor to get that "pump" over the whole track (in limit "on" mode).
yo thanks for the tip on cancel + mfx..

do you know if when you reboot your 404 the original default settings come back to normal or does it stay as you last left it?

Sick thread...

I just want to add one more thing.

Why doesn't everyone just get a multitrack and overdub (resample) on there so you can still change levels and edit sequences without having to resample on the SP (not being able to edit it later)?

A midi looping multitracker? Or regular audio one?

Seriously you get so used to liveplay/resample that i think such a thing.would.slow.me.down.

I sometime use the sequencer on my microsampler but idk... i rather sample what i play in the 404sx

Regular audio one.

Like record each part of the song on a track (bass, drums, sample) and be able to adjust the levels and edit individual parts of the song without having to go back and resample everything again...

Maybe define your loops and stuff separate then use the sequencer to sequence/repeat stuff in the order you want them in the song (intro, chorus, outro, etc.) then just dub those out to the multitrack and edit/redo stuff you want to change by just deleting the track on the multitrack.

I don't even know if I'm being clear or making sense right now...

yes the limiting mode seems to give more ducking than vinyl sim comp when the release knob is all the way up

also instead of resampling you could use the 404 sequencer 99 bar trick. you can't really go back and 'edit' but you can re-adjust levels.

@doc van nos: come join the stones throw battles! if it wasn't for that i would never complete beats
