What sample modes do most of you rock on the SP?
Hifi, medium or Lofi? Or do you sample hifi and then use Lofi fx?
Just got my 505 and I like the Lofi mode better than what's on my 404. I just feel like I'm ruining samples (audio quality for my mix) by using Lofi.
Thoughts? Opinions?
It also seems if you sample in Lofi and you try to blend other sample modes that the samples don't sit well in the mix. The hifi stuff is booming and the Lofi stuff is super quiet.
What sample mode do you use?

Re: What sample mode do you use?
Yo welcome to the 505 family...
I felt the same way with lofi on my 505 and one day I just took the plunge and decided to create an all lofi mode beat tape...loop star
I experimented with lofi in my slumlord 88 beat tape and I did mix lofi sample with drums/percussion that wer recorded in long and I think it came out pretty well...so mixing is possible. (the beat starts at 5:40)
Tho long mode is my perferred method of sampling
I believe lofi is def good for hi hats and snares especially claps...
I think you have to get used to the dirt...

Re: What sample mode do you use?
On the SP-303, I like LONG and sometimes LO-FI. And on the SP-606, LONG at all times.
Re: What sample mode do you use?
with the 303 i usually record the samples in stereo (standard or long mode)
with the 202 i record in mono (hi-fi, standard mode, or lo-fi1)

Re: What sample mode do you use?
i usually flip flop from tape to 404 , a few times. with different combinations of lofi on the og. I notice the lofi mono can reduce nasty tape hiss. I just recorded a few beats that were straight mad hifi, but i accidently recorded them too low, at a low speed. so when I the final track back into the sp it sounds pretty bad, not bad as in good. but oh well.
my new technique is sort of like this, record my samples to tape, sample them in lofi,
record the beat to tape, and then back to the 404.
I bleed the tape to +3 db. you wont be able to run this back into the 404.
so I neutralize it with my st 224. damn , still feel bad for killing those few beats .

Re: What sample mode do you use?
Before the 505 I only used hifi stereo on the mpc, sp404 and my iPad. I was happy with the results but sometimes I feel it's a little too clean and polished.
@ tape smoke - Yeah I was thinking of a similar workflow.
505 to tape > tape to 404 with vinyl sim > wav from 404 to pc
Also maybe.
Lofi mono - drums
Lofi stereo - vox samples
Hifi mono - long music samples
Hifi mono - bass
Hifi stereo - fx and filler samples
Once I start using the hifi mode I'll be forced to work from the smart media card.... Something I was trying to avoid since the 505 is a little bit slow on CPU speed.
