It's USB only, no midi.... So you would need a pc with a midi interface to use it with the 404. Some of the akai or korg controllers would be better since they can run standalone and have normal midi outs.

just tried a korg padkontrol on the SP404sx last night....feels really really tight. Nice thing is on the korg you can assign each pad a diff note # and midi channel, so you can make a "scene" (their term for the 16 pads w/ saved settings) that put together samples on different banks that you could not play easily w/o a bunch of copy and exchanging on the 404.

Did not test if the 404sx will register velocity on pattern seq w/ external midi, testing later....

Does the adapter supply power as well? If not midi won't provide power.

@blav yah the 404 sequencer will accept velocity if the controller can do it, so you should be good.
