Whats funner to make for you?

Do you get better results from microwaving or conventional oven?

Do you believe that even if you spend hours on a beat, someone else might have spent maybe like 20 minutes to achieve the same result? and vice versa?

Do you believe in banging out beats rapidly and letting skill come naturally? or building skill and let speed come naturally?

I suck at making microwave beats (my timing isn't flawless) and swear by being able to edit a beat, so that would be conventional beats for me.

I'm sure some people can bang out beats far quicker than I do. I like to think of myself as creative, but at the end of the day I am not that experienced in making beats. So, yeah, 20 minutes versus 2 hours makes sense to me. I'm usually spending more towards 2 hours time, than only 20 minutes. But some beats obviously come out quicker than others.

Sometimes I get stuck, knowing a sample is hot, but my beat is crappy. Fixing that up can take a lot of time if you don't have a clear idea of how to make it better.

As for the latter, yes when you're in that flow it can help to let your emotions take over so to speak and bang out beats more quickly. Problem is, you'll need quite some inspiration to do this and this only happens to me when I find a good set of matching samples that tickle my ears right from the start hahah.

On more limited gear forcing yourself into this takes some preparation too. I can't do it without some tasty samples.

I agree w/ Cartesia. But I usually start off and make a beat real quick. Then, if I like it, I will spend time changing/modifying it and adding other elements. So what starts as a quick lil joint, I usually spend a lot of time on, if I'm liking it. I have a hard time just accepting something as finished and moving on...

Art is never finished, just abandoned.
