I'm looking at the PT01/Numark also as Mostblunted.. But my question is what is the difference between a belt drive vs. a direct drive?

I'm new to this whole deal.. I just wanted something to pair up with my SP606..

Please I want all good and bad points.. My budget is $200 max, I will just be playing records for sampling, no scratchin since I suck at it..

Well the belt drive turntables motor uses a belt to spin the table. Direct drive turntables simply use a motor under the center of the platter.

Belt drive turntables usually are cheaper than direct drives. Belt drive tt's aren't the best if you want to scratch b/c once you start manipulating the platter the belt has to catch up with it. Direct Drives are preferred if you do choose to start scratching.

I personally use a pt-01 and don't have any complaints. I'm not a dj, i just make beats using it. hope that helps a bit.

For your beats go with the belt drive turntable. They are very cheap and produce lower noise level. I use myself 2x belt tt's and I am quite happy with them - they are very simple but still does the job well.

mostblunted, what this guy did with pair of PT-01's plus mixer is plain crazy!
that's what i really admire - people making amazing things out of nowhere.

Peace.
