Hey its been a while since I posted anything in here.

Thought I leave some inspiration for the 606 owners. This here is my SP that I bought in 2006 brand new when they were going for $700 USD. I hardly used it, I bought it for the sake of just buying another SP brother for the SP fam; because we all had to have them all at one time.

So now fast forward 15 years later, I dusted it off and the knobs crumbled and cracked on me. Also the coloring of the grey parts were a yellowish brown in some areas. Fortunately, it was all cosmetics, the inside was brand spanking new. I replaced the knobs with black metal guitar knobs; be sure to get Alpha and not CTS sized knobs if you wanna good fit, however there are knobs with adjusting screws to tighten them too. I just like knobs without those little screws. Then I painted it black and sealed it in clear acrylic.

Don't think I'm a pro or anything. I did not take it apart to paint the pieces, I just used alot of blue tape and a razor blade. :)

Do it bro, it really looks much better in black. The paint I used was Rustoleum Black Satin, which is for wood, plastic and metal, then I sealed in clear acrylic, thats why its kinda shiny, but I like it like that.

Please read the can before buying it and spraying. I once thought all paint was the same and used paint for strictly metal. It melted the plastic right off my old MPC500. The plastic was literally sizzling and bubbling. So be careful.

Hope everything is well with you and your family too. I know its been hard since this pandemic. And yes, I am planning a June release. Its top secret for now, but I will say, its the most different thing I ever done. :)

nice!
for me it's a sort of new birthmark, i'm about exploring new machines to buy (volca sample, model:samples, volca fm for now); i spent 2019 in jamming on drums with some jazz people in some cafè sessions and on roland spdx with some electronic guys in some live sessions, both thing were fine...

dude volca sample with the unofficial pajen OS is AMAZING. It adds some great features like crazy new midi capabilities and patterns that are 64 steps.

yea i have a volca sample. ive used it to created whole songs before but lately ive been using it as a drum machine sequenced by a beatstep pro. i put a 606,808, and 909 kit on it, then have the pitch and and length for each track midi controlled so i can tweak the sounds live. very fun lol

Super clean! Great job using your blue tape and Exacto knife skills. It really makes the unit look professional.

Thanks Dank!!

I agree with Ritchrd, I have a Volca Sample 1 and I use it like a dirt poor MPC. Once you get your samples in there, you can chop by assigning the same sample to different pads and adjust start and end points. Not only start points but pitch as well to create instruments out of a single sample. Timestretch is alot like Pete Rock's method... in fact, all its tricks and features derive from old school samplers like sampling at high speeds to get more sample time.

I don't have Pagen hack, but as is, I feel at home with a VS. Its an MPC, SP1200 and Octatrack rolled up in a cheap cigar.

Here is my setup. 606 and VS1.
