Yeah, I'd thought that but the tech here at school reckons that the system will be dual-core 64bit. But I haven't seen that in writing so I don't really believe him to be honest.

Well the tech guy might be right in that the hardware will support 64bit , but if you don't install a 64bit operating system on it like Vista Premium 64bit, then it won't use the 64bit functionality so to speak...

In other words, you'll need a 64bit OS, but it's not required for the PC to work, it will run great on a 32bit OS as that's the current standard still.

Okey, I've also installed and used the SP-606 on Vista.. no problems whatsoever, it works fine here.

Same for me, installed first time with Vista (32 bit), never any problem when I plug the 606 into the laptop. Far easier than I expected.

Vista System has arrived. No problems whatsoever. It works fine with the hardware (all Roland hardware, not just the 606) and, more importantly, it runs all the software. I've installed plug-ins from the early 90s that work fine. In fact, the only piece of software I've had trouble with was a version of Sony Acid, but another version worked anyway so no probs..

Great News for anybody getting a new PC.
