The 303 and 505 are very similar in sound. quite difficult to tell the difference.

the 303 and 505 have the same engine but I never had a 303 but I guess that they both colour samples the same way :)
They also work together,so if you can get one,do that!!

hey there. there ARE dudes on here that know about all this stuff...but its not me. my understanding is that it is not about the bit rate.

the 303 and 505 are, i think, both 16 bit machines. however, there is something in the analogue / digital conversion (A/D conversion) where they are outputting at 20 Hrz, rather that 44 hrz.

i could be talking out of my ass, but i think it is something like that.

the bottom line is that the 505 is pretty darned 'warm' or 'muddy' sounding. whether it is more or less muddy than the 303 i don't know, but i DO know my 505 is warmer than my 404, which is cleaner and clearer.

i hope this helps a little bit. if you look thru the posts in the 505 section (there really are not that many) you will find more knowledgeable people talking about the A/D conversion.

hi
in the sp-303 and sp-505 manuls it is marked that they both are 20bit conversin machines.

thats just the conversion bit depth. actually the sampling rate is 44khz (hifi), and lower for other two sampling grades, the middle was somewhere around 20 or 22kHz. the lowest was even lower, but it is almost unusable as produces very metallic sounding samples.

i just received today my sp-505.
real beast.
but now i can say that sp-303 is a good machine too. for example the compressor fx, i don't know for sp-555 or sp-808, but the best is on sp-303.... i've tried the one on sp-404, sp-606 and now sp-505. simply, sp-303 compressor fx crash the drums! 8)
but sp-505 it's dope machine!

peace

no
i think the 555 (loop capture function) is the only sp which can do that
