You find a dope sample from an artist you never heard of and you're all "hell yeah, I got some shit that's never been sampled". So you make a hot beat out of it only to find out later that it has been used.

I've had that happen to me enough that it's no longer surprising or disappointing. It's almost expected!!! The crates are getting thinner and thinner out there by the day!

Oh I know, that's why I chop a lot more and hardly ever loop. I remember when I made a beat with "below the bell" by Yusef Latest and was all proud and shit, hahahaha. Young and dumb I was.

That's why I try to hit up the obscure movie and video game soundtracks now. That shit is basically untapped! Also on my dish tv there is station that lets you know what channels you get a free month of previews for. It plays the most BADASS jazz music. Sometimes I just let the 404 sample it for an hour or two :)

Ya to be honest, I rarely sample off records anymore. Movies, video games and I design a lot of synth sounds. It's frustrating not having Madlibs library!

I may be alone ith this statement, but I'm over the video game beats! Everyone is trying to sound like OH NO and Dibiase. I'm all about sampling movies though. The more left field the better!

Yes, me too. I go to flee markets and spend 10 bucks on $1 DVD's of movies I never heard of or VHS tapes if I can find em.

It's not so much about the 8bit and 16bit game samples, cuz obviously those are over used now, but there's a ton of import PSone games, PS2, and other "newer" games that have amazing soundtracks that nobody even thinks to sample. Yah $1 vhs movies FTW! :D I luv me some "b" film action!

Yeah, I can see that, even some of the music on some of the Wii games have grabbed my attention as potential sample donors.

I also like to sample the sound of a gun reloding. Makes a good hi-hat :D

I would disagree, 8-bit is a way of life homie. http://8bc.org/
Really though, there are going to be copy cats out there. I don't think 8-bit is a fad. Peeps just need to have their own sound and take it to another level. Like, a hip hop square might think Pete Rock and Primo sound the same just cuz they both sample records.

Too each there own! You're talking t a guy who's seen video games from atari 2600 to now. The 8-bit nintendo, sega(whatevs) albums just become monotinous to me. It's like listening to producers where all they do is sample soul and jazz records. If you eat the same meal everyday eventually you'll get tired of it.

I'll sample anything that sounds good as long as it hasn't been done many times before, most of those 8 bit video game beats sound the same.
