just a dumb question for fun....
let's say you could have ONE piece of gear, any machine you like right now. you cannot sell it (to buy 2 of something else). it's the perfect addition to your lab. what is it? in my case it would be between a portable hard disk recorder or 2-inch tape machine.

do you mean 1: 'only one piece of gear'

or 2: 'one new piece of gear to go with all your gear'?

for 1 - I'd say probably a machinedrum UW

for 2 - dave smith Tetr4

That would probably be something from Eventide, maybe Eclipse or even H8000FW... but I'd first have to hit the Jackpot on lotery.

Dave Smith Polyevolver or Prophet 08. I think I'm actually going to get one or the other after I get my funds right.

if you have the space I'd definitely go for the poly evolver keyboard, if i had the space that would be my choice synth. I've seen some go for pretty cheap, like $11-1300 . since I'm space challenged, i wound up coping a monomachine to go with the machinedrum.

and I'm with Drewzle too if we're talking about only having one piece of gear instead of adding only one piece. even with it's 2.5MB of sample storage there is soooo much that you can do with just a machinedrum UW.

Possibly a Microkorg? I guess a second sampler would be cool...but I'd be best off with just another crate of nice records.

I really want a polyphonic analog synth, so I think I'm going to go with the DSI Tetr4. The price is right and I have a $200 Guitar Center gift card that I need to use.

It would be the MS-1 , I can rock that like an MPC even with its extreme limitations.
