i can def. see where hurlingdervish is coming from, but you have to imagine what it would sound like four years from now. if you would have asked me four years ago, i would say that it's whack. but a lot of the stuff is progressive. sort of like when people hated fantastic damage. do you think cats will be sampling the 60's and 70's forever?

nah it has nothing to do with sampling anything

you could definitely do 80's sampling if you tried, im not a fan of beating a dead horse at all.
but the 80's is one era i surely hope electronic music never repeats.

ive listened to it about 8 times trying to "get it"

however an artist's vision is their vision so they gotta do what they gotta do...

I haven't listened to much of the new hudmo album, but he and the LuckyMe collective are big on making a weird drunk psych sound that mixes neon funk, post Dilla beats, and digital r'n'b with crunk and whatnot. A lot of the Ballers Social Club mixes I've heard are good, but then some of them get overwhelmingly glitchy or stuttered. I'll have to check out Butter - hudmo is sort of hit or miss for me.

I've only heard the album once through, but i wonder if it's not just an 80's influence. I kind of get this indulgent late 70's early 80's progressive fusion vibe, like jean luc ponty steez. which gets more interesting since his last EP was named after a jean luc ponty song...

also i absolutely love star crackout and it was one of my favorites from those all-city 7"s, but it inclusion on the album (or maybe jut it's place in the sequence) seems forced to me...

I need to give it a few more listens i think, maybe today while i'm in the studio i'll throw it on a couple times...
