just wondering if anyof of you sp users have used the ipod touch beatmaker. i just got it last night and i couldnt sleep because i was so impressed at the amount of beatmaking capabilities this little application has. it doesnt have pad banks so your 16 pads is all you got but you can create a bank in your computer then load it up, you can chop on the ipod and trim your samples. it only triggers, doesnt have gate but you can still rock out with triggered one shots. the quality is amazing for the little device. i was banging beats on the bus on the way to work. it comes with a crap load of pre-chopped samples and some really good kick and snare samples. and it has a sequencer as well, sort of like the one in fruityloops, with different patterns. its definitly amazing. you could rock out something on the toilet then transfer it to the sp and continue it more. i also watched a vid on youtube of this dude rocking the beatmaker just like a mpc with zone chops and was killing this hot beat. theres also a forum for beatmaker beats just for beat-heads to post their work. i gotta say if you got the ipod touch, get this app, if you aint got the touch, go get a dam touch and get this app.
but you might go broke like me, i already bought like 5 apps for making beats and they all are amazing, another is xewton music studio for sequencing like fruityloops as well.
i could write forever about em.
but i wont
peece

I used to rock beatmaker a lot, but not so much now. I use the name formal on the forums over there. There are a few things that keep me from using this app more.
1. Not many of the 3rd party mics work with it, so it's hard to get quality samples into it (Alesis Protrack w/dual 1/4" input would be so nice)! without using the PC.
2. Limited trigger modes and control over the sample. I wanna see gate, trigg, retrig, and the ability to set the poly.
3. Only 16pads. You can make something, but you need to be really creative. Resampling is like a 5 step process.
4. The FX are nice, but wonky to use. Everytime you reload your file all the FX info is lost. Same goes with filter settings.
5. The developers are not helpful at all. They do not work with community and we're consistently left in the dark. If they kept regular communication with the users that would be a different story. As it stands beatmaker is one of the most expensive apps on the store, $19.99, and for the last year Intua has been raking in the dough always coming in #1 in the music app lists. It really bugs me that they aren't open with new/upcoming features.

It's a good program and I am eagerly awaiting v2.0. If you have the patience to program with this then it might be helpful for you, but nothing can beat an SP404 or MPC500 for on the go beatmaking. On the other hand there are TONS!!! of other great applications that are awesome for getting material to dump into the sampler. For the serious users I'd suggest checking out the Sunvox Tracker (works on Win, OSX, Linux, Palm, Winmo, Iphone all cross compatible).
