my girls and also frightened are genius.
im glad they let panda bear take the wheel and make coherent songs now instead of a 6 minute noise-fest that anyone could reproduce. Not that theres anything wrong with noise-fests, its just good to hear them play notes and melodies you know?

i thought avey still had basically an equal amount of songs

doesnt really matter though, the panda bear ones are better, and i know what you mean, i prefer them doing something with melody instead of pure freak outs.

Feels is still my favorite album them though.

hmm i hadnt heard that album, its pretty good so far. the one i picked up the first time was lackluster.

i think even greater things are in their future.

interesting anecdote: i was talking to this kid who used to hang out with animal collective and he said, "they are just a bunch of dudes fucking around"

if so... they're amazing at fucking around! all summer last year i was spinning the strawberry jam album and now... merriweather. That band is one of THE most progressive bands around right now... listen to their first album to now, simply amazing.

he knew them a long time ago so its "they WERE a bunch of kids fucking around"

i didnt realize it at first but also frightened is about having kids

"If they're awake till the dawn
We won't fret that they don't have our eyes"

"I want them to be who they will be
or to be more like their dad"

I liked this album a lot better than Strawberry Jam and Feels, even though Feels is a good album. Can't wait to see them with Black Dice next Friday.

Cmon then,
prove it!

Cuckoo cuckoo and Safer are in my opinion the 2 best songs of strawberry jam,
and I do not believe making something that effects me so deeply as these is in any way easy. At a quick glance, it might just sound like random noise.. but its actually very intricate and controlled.

I just saw them last night... man, it was like a noisy psychedelic minimal techno rave. And they use Roland SP stuff - I saw Geologist twiddling the knobs on his SP 404 throughout the whole set, and he had a lot of stuff hooked up to something that looked like a bigger SP-404... it had the same shape, but was bigger. I couldn't read what it was. I was like twenty feet away, but I don't have the best vision, so I couldn't read what that piece of equipment was. Black Dice was great too.
