Celemony have announced that their upcoming release of their Melodyne v2 Plugin will include Direct Note Access, which allows for MIDI-like complex alteration of audio data, even when those notes are buried in chords, and even other instruments. It's pretty amazing stuff.

You can take a single audio recording or sample, and break it into its component notes - and then adjust those notes accordingly, whether it be pitch shifting, moving the notes position, or the length of a particular note within a chord being played.

No it's not designed for that. There really isn't any software that can. Melodyne (Celemony) is basically another sort of Autotune. From the site (google is your friend)

Quote:
Melodyne is the perfect tool for pitch shifting and time stretching in convincingly natural sound quality, for correcting the intonation and timing of singing, for audio quantization, producing harmonies, and remixing and restructuring the melody, tempo or timing of existing recordings. With Melodyne you can actually do the impossible — and do it easily.

Gotta wait for the next version homie. You can extract midi from audio right now though.

http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?i ... _audiomidi

So you could take an Oscar Peterson Jazz solo, jack the midi. Load the midi file in reason and have that solo playback with any reason instrument. Plus then you can edit note lengths, flip the bars around, make it your own.

ok then i will have to try photo sounder.

it says you can actually extract parts. like take drums out. cancell vocals,

or extract any part you want like a multi track.

even though melodyne is cool, its almost completly useless for me.

heres how to extract acapella with cool edit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0BLpoEY ... r_embedded

you need an intrumental, then compare it againts the one with a vocal.

then it extracts the accapella, cool. still not what im looking for though.
