Fucking-A-Doodlebug

I always wanted to get into graphic design but never could deal with school long enough to get a degree.

You really don't need to go to school to learn graphic design. I learned most of the stuff by practice and using resources on the internet.

Just start practicing on paper, learn a bit oh Photoshop and Illustrator and when you think you're ready try a couple of projects at crowdSPRING.

That's super cool Keesj, great article and very interesting. I've made art and drawn since I was five but tore a tendon in my left hand and I can no longer draw accurate circles, lines etc.. freehand, but I learned how to make music after that and now with digital mediums for art I'm slowly trying to get back into it. You're a pretty inspiring cat Keesj, thanks for holdin' down this site.

Thanks for the advice. I know a little photoshop and I been drawing as long as I can remember. I started a C.A.D. course at the local vocational school a few years back but couldn't deal with the environment. I'll definitely look into crowdSPRING though.

Nice article. I feel you on TextMate man, I code HTML, CSS and PHP and shit was a revelation. I wish it had a terminal window integrated though. My mac was down for a bit and I had to try to get gedit on my Ubuntu laptop to take its place and I got used to being able to sftp without alt-tabbing, but I digress... Try the "Cool Glow" color scheme if you haven't, it reigns supreme...

Yeah, a very interesting interview. I'm one of the kids that just got a PC and doodled around with Paint at age 11 ;D But I'm also working with Photoshop for like 4 years now and it's become my second passion besides music. I'm studying media-informatics, that's not too far off from multimedia-design *g* In fact I would've wanted to study that as well but I can't really draw or paint by hand and getting a place for that discipline is very hard.

I'm definitely gonna check out what that crowdspring is all about.

Congrats on that competition you won and once again thanks for this awesome forum! 8)

Sorry to hear that. At least you're now rocking the SP, which perhaps you wouldn't be doing otherwise.

@hematurge
Yeah, most school don't seem to be a productive learning environment. I think learning this stuff yourself and with friends is the best way anyway.

@iG9
Have you looked into Coda? ( http://www.panic.com/coda/ ) It doesn't offer all the function TextMate does, but it has an built-in terminal, visual CSS editor, manuals, FTP client and browser-window. I don't use it myself because I really like some of TextMate's unique features but I can recommend at least trying it. It does have some interesting functionality.

@Count Sierackula
Yay!

@blindfold
Yeah I can't really paint by hand either. Matter of fact, although my study is called "communication & multimedia design" it's not as much about graphic design as you might think.

Funny you mention that one, I was about to dl coda when I found tm. Been going back and forth on giving it a shot and I prolly will but I'm really used to the tm shortcuts and autocompletes and such...
