Pros: You can PITCH each individual sample and do '16 level' stuff that is impossible with the SPs & you can MIDI sequence other synths & gear-

Cons: No illy dilly FX like the SPs have. If you have the individual outs you can always keep 2 hard wired to the SP input- MP & SP make a mean team.

The 2000 is before Akai started to nose dive in the quality department---IMO

If it's the BLUE one (mpc2Kmcd) then you're stylin'

Definitely agreed, I've been looking into the MPC5K and some older ones (2500 for example), but soon realized the MV totally outmatches it all.

The MPC3000 and 4000 are probably my favorite oldies, but having the MV I don't need those either.

Congrats and happy birth day. I'm sure the machine will work great for you. I'm quite the admitted gear whore, and I usually cop stuff, unless its over kill. I just recently got to a content point with my setup. But who knows what toy will drop tommorow, haha, Peace, Duss 8)

I like it a lot. I miss my sp606 a little bit, not being able to join in battles here kind of sucks, but I wouldn't trade my MV for the world.

I'm still learning a lot at the moment about the machine, so I obviously haven't found out about all tricks yet, however it's not very tricky to learn.

It's quite easy to pick up and you will figure out a reasonably fast work-flow in almost no time (as in a work-flow comparable to what I used to do on my SP-606, which basically boils down to no noticeable change in work-flow and time it takes me to make beats.).

The way the machine works makes a lot of sense in my opinion. I haven't actually read the manual a lot yet.. something that's still on my to-do list. But I'm usually learning faster the hard way of just trying out and doing things. Well, as I'm not at all frustrated about this process yet, I can not conclude other than to say that it's really easy to get into! :)

Yeah, I've also heard about people having difficulties with it, but they usually have problems because they're stuck in thinking of the MV as if it's an 'mpc'. It's more obvious than it sounds, but the mv is not an mpc. I'm inclined to say that it's more than an mpc, but regardless of features and so on, it works slightly different even though you can actually do the same on the MV.

So yeah, to end this little rant of how it went so far, I've had little problems learning the device and there's still a lot to discover!! This machine is huge though, there's a lot possible.

Man I don't think anyone can honestly claim to know this machine inside out in just a few months. Ironically, some of the people that complained about the MV apparently 'did' know the machine inside out.

Anyways, yeah go cop one if you've got the money, it's definitely worth it. I had to work and also sell my Kaoss Pad 3, SP-606 and some more stuff to be able to get it, but it was totally totally worth it!

Happy birthday drew! I take it you'll be up at all hours for the first few days after you get your MPC, whith all the excitement and that. Who knows, sleep deprivation may make you come up with some crazy ideas.

Yo Phe- Totally off topic but I'm dying to know:
Can you plug a MIDI keyboard into the MV and 'play' samples keyboard style complete with pitch bend & mod ???

Hey man, yeah, I'm pretty sure you can, at least playing samples through a midi keyboard is totally possible. I have seen many people do that. In fact most likely the pitch bend mod will work also.

Still, my midi cables to hook up my MicroKorg haven't arrived yet, so I've currently got no first hand experience with this yet. I'll let you know when it arrives, which should be in a week or so.

Actually, I've just noticed it's in the manual at page M-301 or so stating what midi messages it can understand, pitch bend is one of them. 8)
