"This is the eye of the storm.
It's what men in stained raincoats pay for."

... and I'm not going to hide the fact that the segment of music that runs from 4:16 until the end is so incredibly good that I could leave it on repeat forever, and never, ever get bored of it!

It brings me out in the most ridiculous goosebumps!

"Hey SP-FORUMS!
Will you buy a box of matches from me today, please?"

Don't hold your breath little matchstick girl. Most of the dudes on here have their bongs on perpetual ignition so have no need for matches to re-light them. Some of them are so primitive they've even taken to rubbing flints together in the vacinity of their butt-hole after a beans-on-toast, and they do that just to save on matches!

I hate to say it but I think you'll be sleeping on the street again tonight.

"Breathe" is a futuristic adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Matchstick Girl".

Here's a long but interesting story that may or may not be true, but why not see what you think, come to your own conclusion?

It's regards the "Pulp" track "This Is Hardcore" that was posted at the top of this page. I remember in great detail a discussion on a Dark Web forum not long after that track had been released, where some bloke had posted a thread called "Fuck me, what a track!" or something to that effect.

It was basically some bloke claiming that the song was originally written about "Red Rooms". Red Rooms are establishments where rich people pay to watch or indulge in snuff porn (think the Hostel movie franchise). And according to this bloke, it was written in light of the revelations surrounding the discoveries of actual Red Rooms at the time.

It blew-up into quite a hilarious argument in parts because this bloke behaved as if he was close to the band and had connections or something, while most of the contributors to the thread were basically writing him off as some sort of crack-pot.

But I tell you what, even to this day (and even after Cocker himself was questioned about it and gave an explanation), I must admit there's still 50% of me thinks that bloke might have been telling the truth. He was really detailed about it, everything from the original structure of the song to the artwork used was discussed in great detail.

This is what he claimed:

1 - The track was originally written about Red Rooms (snuff porn).
2 - The necklace on the cover is meant to represent a cut line to the neck.
3 - The red leather on the cover is meant to represent a pool of blood.
4 - The second part of the song is part of the original Red Room work.
5 - The second part of the song remains almost completely original.
6 - The first part of the song was written later after a change of heart.
7 - The final 'film noire' theme was chosen as a way to dress it up differently.

And then there's the lyrics:

"This is the eye of the storm, it's what men in stained raincoats pay for."
Was claimed to be representative of seedy men in blood-stained raincoats paying for the gratification they receive from such acts.

"But in here it is pure."
Was claimed to represent that such acts are the norm in such an establishment.

"This is the end of the line".
Was claimed to represent the suggestion that the victim is about to meet her demise.

"I've seen this storyline played out so many times before."
Was claimed to represent the suggestion that the person carrying out the act is not new to it, that it is all in a days work for him.

"That goes in there, then that goes in there, then that goes in there ..."
Was claimed to represent the act of sexual intercourse.

"... and then it's over."
Was claimed to represent the act of snuff either during or after sex (can't remember which).

"Oh what a Hell I've been shown ..."
Was claimed to represent the witnessing of the act of snuff.

"But what I want to know, what exactly do you do for an encore?"
Was claimed to represent the extremity of what had just been witnessed by the observer.

"... cause this is hardcore."
Was claimed to represent that nothing could be more hardcore than the act that had just been witnessed by the observer.

I read amongst the YouTube comments today that Cocker claimed the track was really written as a jab at the way porn stars are treated badly in the porn industry, and then discarded, much like musicians are treated in the music industry. What he claims makes perfect sense and is very likely true, but there's still 50% of me believes the bloke who was making the claims and I'll tell you why ...

The line "Oh what a Hell I've been shown ..." seems to fit the claims of what this bloke was saying way more than what Cocker claims. It's also interesting to note how dissonant, twisted and pure fucking evil-sounding in tonality the live version of this track is performed in, and you must admit it is far more fitting of a song about "Red Rooms" than it is about "Porn". The way those strings and guitars are performed in the live version, man, it really does sound pure evil, beutiful mind you, but pure fucking evil.

And guess what else? It's flood-lit in "Red" from start to finish, which could indeed be representative of a "Red Room". So interesting stuff for sure, and there are many different claims of what the song is really about, but judge for yourselves because here's the devilishly dissonant, flood-lit in "Red-Room" red live performance of that track!

And finally, observe the extravagant breathing actions performed by Cocker at the end of the track, cause one could easily be convinced that it represents a persons slowing heart beat and their last struggle for breath - I mean WTF!

It sounds fucking amazing, but don't have nightmares y'all:

The short and sweet format of this comment and replies makes me think they saw the same thing I saw but are keeping quiet about it. I reckon they're secretly going 'hehehe' inside their heads!

But anyway, I said I'm 50% convinced in the previous post, but actually I suppose I'm more like 75% convinced due to the lyircs fitting the Dark Web guy's claims way more than Cocker's explanation.

Regardless, very nice track!

RANT MODE ADVISORY

Uptown, downtown, underground, choose your poison bro (I've certainly chosen mine).

All are valid but I have to say, for a Hip-Hop community I'm really surprised (majorly disappointed to be more precise) at just how tame it all is. It's weird really cause when I had no interest in Hip-Hop I used to think of it as a sort of big finger up to the politically correct, and to an extent I suppose it is, but one thing that has become a stinking disappointment is that in reality, there doesn't really seem to be any sort of interest in the darker side of society, the darker side of reality or the excitement that can only come from indulging in music that truly glorifies controversial subject matter regardless of what it is!

I've posted a whole bunch of stuff on here over the years, a lot of it secretly aimed at triggering a negative response, but it fails every time. And as for the tracks other people post, I'm not knocking the tracks, in fact I enjoy quite a lot of them, but for me personally they are all far too vanilla when I compare it to what I thought I would see from a thread like this in a community like this.

But no, nothing, you boring bunch of bastards

I've not heard a single track posted by any of you that resembles anything more than, how can I put it ... "Vanilla with a falsified attitude". Don't you lot ever listen to anything that is even remotely controversial, but preferably highly controversial?

Or are you really just another bunch of politically corrected sheeple playing on the name of Hip-Hop in order to feel cool?

The anticipation in this thread has been a lot like what happened with a mate of mine. He used to babysit for his uncle every week, he'd invite me round after he'd got the kid to sleep and we would watch a porno from the stash of VHS tapes his uncle had on the top of his bedroom wardrobe. Well there was one time I asked if I could borrow one, there were tons of them so there was no way his uncle would know as long as he pulled it from the bottom of the pile.

So he did, he grabbed me one from the bottom of the pile and I took it home with me. I waited in anticipation until my parents had gone to bed, crept downstairs and loaded it into the VCR only to discover that his uncle or aunt had recorded over it with a bunch of "Danger Mouse" episodes.

Bastards!

So anyway, back to the boring vanilla complex of the homies on here; so am I to take it that the only Hip-Hop artist worth listening to for anything even remotely controversial, is Necro? - because frankly he's the only one I've heard so far who is!

I have to wonder cause for a Hip-Hop community you come across more like a bunch of pansies than anything else. Chicks with dicks would be another suitable analogy. I don't mean that in an insulting way, I mean it purely in a comparative sense; comparative to what I had hoped.

For fuck sake, are there any Hip-Hop artists out there other than Necro, who tackle proper-controversial subject matter and themes? Anything, I don't care what the theme is as long as it's genuinely controversial and shows a blatant disregard for political correctness, stuff you would be weary of owning, stuff like that.

Sorry, but all this "Yo Mamma so fat she swallow the whole world!" kinda bullshit just doesn't cut it for me personally, nor does the rampant use of bad language with stickers claiming "PARENTAL ADVISORY" stamped all over the cover to make it look hard. It's essentially the same old vanilla bullshit even when the tracks themselves are generally ok.

So what I'm getting at is, think of taboos, think of controversiality, think of what really ruffles the publics feathers and try posting a link to something like that for once - that would be great!

I personally would love to see that sort of stuff for a change, because I want to get an idea of what I'm up against in producing my own stuff. I'm dark-minded, so don't worry about it, I'm not some politically corrected woketard who'll attack you no matter what it is!

I understand the difference between reality and fantasy, and I love me a good dark fantasy now and then, so do your best (or rather worst) and post something genuinley highly controversial for once, something at least controversial enough that it would likely cause me to reasearch the artist and not laugh at you.

Trying to get non-vanilla output from you lot is like trying to get blood out of a fucking stone, so here's hoping there's someone on here with the ability to quench SP-USER's thirst for something far from vanilla before he goes stark raving mad from the monotony.

sounds bad dont like sounds good then like, simple

ps i think ur forgetting ur in a forum where the majority of ppl tackle music with the scope of a producer and/or beatmaker,, not the lyrical contents or subject matters which even then is subjective preference

anyways

Theres a J Dilla LP coming out compiled of some early tape finds,, heres a link where you can hear some snippets

Sure but like I said I'm just generally pissed-off at how vanilla the whole Hip-Hop thing has turned out to be. It's not what I expected in that respect, even though I still enjoy it for the production style. I just wish someone would post-up something more along the lines of what I discussed for once. Once a year would be a start, but there's not even that.

It's a shame I'm not a guitar player, cause at least there are guitar-heavy genres that really like to push things, like Death Metal for example.

With few exceptions Hip-Hop just doesn't seem to have the same sort of balls and sentiment behind it as some of the other genres do. I've considered picking-up a guitar to try building-up tracks by practicing individual phrases and sampling them one at a time, then combining them into layered, finished tracks. I suppose it would work but those genres are often covered in gutteral vocals and I'm not sure I would want that. For starters I can hardly ever understand a fucking word they're saying, so that's going to be about as useful to my quest as a pair of banana-skin brake pads.

Might even have to say fuck it and create a genre of my own, perhaps a hybrid of the two!

Anyway, I feel like I'm about to embark on a project any tme soon so will have to start building-up friendships in some of those Dark Web communities. It's important I do that because at the end of the day I am not one of you, I'm one of the dark-minded and it's the dark-minded that interests and fascinates me so. I feel like these surface-web forums are way too boring for me personally, and truth be told I only bother with this website because I happen to think you're a very likeable bunch of freaks!

I still think you're a bunch of vanilla chicks with dicks tho
