Not too long ago, back in 2007, two Aussies with good old-fashioned song-writing skills and a gift for great production quality, landed on earth and became known as "Empire Of The Sun".

Here's four tracks from their debut album, "Walking On A Dream", an album bursting at the seams with tracks that demonstrate their ability to wite music with those all-important "hooks".

Just added "Without You" and "Walking On A Dream" to the post above. It just seemed a bit insufficient to list only two tracks from that album - it's a great album!

BTW, not sure why, but for some reason the uploads to YouTube sound a bit off and really thin, but trust me, the Vinyl sounds way better!

they seem deriving from MGMT 2000's indie-pop to my ears, i don't know who came first, btw

If you look at the comment section on YouTube for "Walking On A Dream", there are a few references to the band you mentioned although I don't believe they copy anyone. In fact the reason I like "Empire Of The Sun" is because they have what is clearly a genuine appreciation for good old-fashioned song-writing and production technique, it's very noticable in their tracks and sound and production style.

I remember the first time I heard them, it was the track "Half Mast" and I thought to myself, man that was nice, not even realising at the time that they were a modern day band. That lead me on to hearing the track "Walking On A Dream", and man, that was it, I just went ahead and bought the album immediately and do not regret it.

It's nice to see modern bands who are, in effect, paying homage to those old-school writing and production techniques even if people might not see it that way. It's an awesome album loaded with awesome tracks, so might as well post another one from the same album while I'm at it!

For those of us lucky enough to have been kids in the 80s, you might recognise Jenny Agutter from the 1977 Sci-Fi "Logan's Run". If not then you're surely aware of her misfortune in shacking-up with a werewolf in the 1981 movie "An American Werewolf in London".

I have to say I've always had a lot of respect for Jenny Agutter, not just for being a fine actress, but on a more personal level. Throughout her very lengthy acting career she's always come across as one who's avoided the vices, poison and pitfalls that other stars fall into. She's always been a 'lady' in my eyes and she's managed to do that regardless of starring in some fairly raunchy movies over the years.

One of my favourites of hers is the 1971 movie "Walkabout", which if you have not seen it you really should. "Walkabout" has that magical ability to make you feel as if you've just survived an epic adventure after watching it.

But anyway, back to this soundtrack, is seems poor Jenny was having trouble bagging herself the right sort of fella long before that crazy werewolf guy came along; twelve whole years before to be exact!

Man, talk about discovering music through film!!!

Was listening to "I Start Counting" from the post above and couldn't help but notice that the organ he was using has pitch bend. Now you might think well so what, it's no biggie an organ having pitch bend bruh, but actually, it is when you consider the track was recorded back in 1969. I've never heard a synthesizer from back then doing such a convincing organ, meaning it was a real organ, meaning that pitch-bending it was done using some sort of sound fuckery.

So then I searched "Basil Kirchin" and clicked on the first album I came across (the one attached to this post). I'm still listening to the album as I type this, and man, what an interesting turn of events! Turns out this dude was obsessed with tape fuckery, he would record ambient sounds, animal sounds, and strange as it sounds, even the voices of autistic children who were cared for where his wife used to work. He would record it all to a Nagra tape deck, take it home and set to work on some serious tape-mangling sound-fuckery, chopping it up, speeding it up, slowing it down, reversing it etc. So this explains how he managed to pitch-bend a real organ in "I Start Counting", but there is more - and just wait until you read this for a string of coincidences!!!

Apparently this guy was born in Blackpool, which made me chuckle a bit thinking to myself, hey, fancy that. But it got even weirder when I then read that he moved to Hull when he retired, because me, I was born in Hull. But the most weird thing of all is that I am sure I have met this guy and even been served by him. Apparently he got so fed-up of record labels fucking around with his music that he pretty much became a recluse, moved to Hull and hung-out with some Hull musicians based at Fairview Studios in Willerby, Hull.

Well guess what, I lived just minutes away from that studio, have used their services a few times and I specifically remember needing to purchase a bulk box of blank cassette labels from them on one occasion, and I am pretty damn sure that I was served initially by this guy before another guy came along to deal with the actual transaction. So I just had to find a picture of him on the internet and it is definitely him, I do remember meeting that dude at Fairview!

It's amazing (and in this case seriously fucking creepy) how coincidental discoveries can be, and although I never knew him, it's still very cool to know I have met him, especially as he was someone who went against the general boring way of society and did his own thing, someone who became pissed-off and reclusive, cause believe me, I TOTALLY know that fucking feeling!!!

I'll be checking this dude out big-time, and to think how easy we have it now, being able to sample, speed-up, slow-down, reverse and chop with a 404. Albums like this should really make us appreciate how much work it took to produce albums like that using tape, and how incredibly easy we have it now.

Absolute fuckery, love it, and I think I'm about to discover even weirder albums by him, but this album (as the text on the cover suggests) is in two parts, the second part being where it starts to get really werid, presumably because these are mangles of the autistic children he'd record.

The second part appears to start at 25:20 on the video timeline, but best listen to all!

And what the fuck are you lot looking at and laughing at?
Bloody inbred bunch of beat-makers!

- £100 says I'm getting laid more than you.
- £100 says I'm not as dumb as I look.
- £100 says I'm in the perfect job.

Watch, learn, and prepare to hand-over that £300
(And shut the fuck up, I'll take a peek if I want to).

Cheers bruh, I guessed it meant "Sex Mad", so I guessed it right but in reverse order

I've not seen the film yet but I'm definitely going to. I love how seductive Laura Antonelli is, she's beautiful and classy with it. She's also a perfect example of why I love women of the 70s and 80s so bloody much!

I found the complete OST from Trovajoli on YouTube and look forward to taking a listen, but what are the "interesting" movies you refer to starring Giancarlo Giannini, got a quick list?

You know a girl has almost everything when the only thing she lacks is Ravish perfume!

- A dab behind the knees; is sure to please!
- A dab between the toes; cause you never know!

This piece was released in 1981 and is totally 80s, right down to the super-stylish font used on the bottle of Ravish, and of course the styling of the bottle itself is totally 80s too - yum!

they are some ironical/political italian movies from the 70s
Dramma della gelosia (tutti i particolari in cronaca) (1970) by Ettore Scola
Mimì metallurgico ferito nell'onore, by Lina Wertmüller (1972)
Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzurro mare d'agosto, by Lina Wertmüller (1974)
Il bestione, by Sergio Corbucci (1974)
Pasqualino Settebellezze, by Lina Wertmüller (1975)

there are others more serious too
L'innocente, by Luchino Visconti (1976)
and more weirdy/atipical
Mi manda Picone, by Nanni Loy (1984)

and some others...

Bruh, thanks for the list (I'm checking them out) but you're gonna have to excuse my temporary lapse into acting like a love-struck teenager for a moment, cause while I was copy/pasting the names of those movies into duckduckgo.com image search for one of those movies, it threw up a picture of this woman.

I've never seen her before and I assumed she was some retro babe from one of the movies you listed. I thought yup, I'll definitely be watching that film, just try and stop me!

But I was shocked to find she's actually a modern day woman, she's 44 at the moment and it totally baffles me why this woman is not all over our screens. I mean I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but fucking hell, what a beauty, and those eyes, man, she should be playing Wonder Woman or something and it just goes to show that pulling-off that vintage beauty look is perfectly possible if the woman doing it actually has a clue!

She's called Gabriella Pession and all I can say is it's a crying shame that Dario Argento doesn't have his filthy hands all over her for his next modern day Giallo!

Or maybe he does, one can hope!
