Great to see a nujabees entry here, definitely a recognised name for those who KNOW, but for sure an unsung hero for those who don’t, pioneer of a sound is hard to achieve, rest in peace

This sombre piano piece from "Ryuichi Sakamoto" was written for the zen-like masterpiece that is "Tony Takitani", which itself was shot by the amazingly talented "Jun Ichikawa".

The movie is about an ageing cartoonist and Jazz enthusiast who feels that his life is somewhat empty without a woman in his life. Then one day his luck changes when he finds her and marries her. She's awesome and all, but unfortunately she has a rather serious problem, especially if one is relatively short on cash like the struggling cartoonist Tony is.

The movie "Tony Takitani" is an absolute masterpiece of cinematography, shot in an open-air car park just outside Tokyo, so that he could control the light perfectly and use telephoto lenses for all the shots to give a very squared, isometric feel although you would never have guessed how it was shot without being told about it. There's a documentary on the DVD about how and where it was shot, the effort that went into the cinematography was immense, and man I tell you that documentary is as good as the film itself. I bought it years ago on DVD but will have to pick it up on Blu-ray now that it's been released in Full HD.

If there's a moral to the story I'm guessing it's to stay away from witches with brightly coloured hair, and never marry a racing driver if you want a long and happy life.

On a more positive note I really like this tune, I think it's goosebump-bringing fine!

Aye, very nice track, although I haven't looked into the movie yet.

As with a lot of the movies I find on David's channel it's on my list of films to see, and that list just grows and grows - lol. Certainly seems beautifully shot and if the movie is as good as the soundtrack then it should be pretty good I reckon! I never take notice of movie reviewers etc, I've always found it to be completely pointless.

Certainly comes across as a surreal sort of movie so I'll prolly like it

the composer Maurizio Vandelli, if is him that Maurizio, is a well known -in italy- front man of a cool beat-psych oriented band of mid '60s: the Equipe 84; he made some -meh- solo albums, and i think the Camille ost is just a one-shot ost he made

Sounds like the same person, and I haven't listened in full yet but I spotted the full OST on YouTube the other day. The first track is the one I already posted but the second one sounds like a weird sort of Funk and Jazz kinda thing.

Like I said though, not heard it myself yet but here's the full OST in case you're curious.

Wow, bit of a treat in store (well for me anyway). This is not so much about the music but the film related to it because apparently the movie "I Start Counting" (from which I posted the track a short while back) was released on Blu-ray fairly recently and already it has been uploaded to YouTube. Below are links to both the trailer and the full movie which I have to say looks totally fucking scrumptious!!!

It's shot on my favourite kinda 70s film stock; the grain, film response and halation looks absolutely fucking scruptious and very importantly, they've used a professional to transfer it to Blu-ray, and by "professional" I mean they have used someone with the brains to understand the importance of keeping it warts and all, every little grain of detail. Those clowns who remove the film grain ought to be put up against a wall and shot, and thankfully the person responsible for this transfer has not removed the grain, spots, scratches, dirt or the effects of halation from the film, they've left it all in there 'warts and all' as the saying goes and it looks fucking amazing (and a big-thumbs up to them for doing so).

Sure that's just the fanatical side of me coming out and 99.9% of people out there probably won't have a fucking clue what I'm rattling on about with regards "halation" and stuff, but I cannot tell you just how much I enjoy that aesthetic, there just isn't words sufficient enough to describe it.

Anyway, I just watched a few minutes of it and will definitely be watching the full movie tonight. Not sure if it'll be taboo enough to make it worth buying it to flip it, but I'm pretty sure I'll be picking this one up regardless due to the aesthetic and it featuring Jenny Agutter which is always a win in my book, great actress!

Don't forget to watch both links in Full HD if you watch them!
