I’m sure we all find out tomorrow. As far as the pitch is concerned, I don’t see the point in complaining if it’s not there. Roland seems to shuffle the deck and some cards don’t get handed back.

And where are those pitch buttons? I don't see any and even if there are any it likely just means it'll "Pitch Shift" up and down. The terms "Pitch Shift" and "Chromatic" have nothing to do with being able to turn a knob to adjust the pitch of a sample without it being pitch-shifted or locked into chromatic scale increments.

Like I said about a thousand times now "I hope I'm wrong" but the specs make me think I'm not.

I think you're confused about what 'pitch shift' means. It literally means what it says - shifting the pitch up or down. 'Chromatic' is chromatic pitch shifting (i.e. in half steps), and the 'pitch/speed' button means changing the pitch and speed at the same time (possibly still in chromatic steps, but who knows). Surely a 'pitch/speed' button is a very strong indicator of, um, being able to change the pitch and speed of a sample? And a 'bend' function at least implies that the sampler has a pitching engine that allows for pitches to be bent (i.e. not just chromatically).

It's just a bit tiring to see the same spam on multiple pages saying Roland aren't incorporating pitch, when anyone with eyes can see that they probably have. Whether it's in the way you want it is by the by - people aren't buying a budget sampler/workstation to embrace the power of microtunings

Yeah but if it turns out that way you've not much room left, so where will you squeeze it in bro?

Back to our original programming:

It’s getting hyped too hard and many people will complain about one thing or another once the limitations start to show. I’m really worried about the dj thing for one. That is completely new and may only work with software, we’ll see soon enough. Personally, that’s the least interesting aspect of this machine. I also imagine the effects will be more digital sounding, if that makes sense. And don’t expect too much out of chromatic. Finally, I’ll bet the sequencer hasn’t changed much. For new adopters who are used to circuit and digitakt, this will be seen as bad. I like the old sequencer, but hey…
I’m guessing the transfer speed will be ok and the hardware will be robust as usual, buuutttt those encoders will die first. Love my OG though the encoders on it are definitely crackly and don’t always respond.

Anyway, Excited to see this. However im still waiting on a 707 as the predecessor of the all time boss the 505.

And headphones, check out the black box sampler. Man, that’s probably what you want.

What’s the Black Box sampler? Why do I want it? I’ve never heard of it!

Yeah, either a 505 successor or an SP-606 successor would be sick. I think people are still sleeping on both OGs to be honest. Yes, the SP-404 is cool, but the SP-606 is more of an all-in-one, for those looking for 'more'.

Interesting little box, I checked it out last year but it struck me as massively more useful in Eurorack format than being a standalone sampler. Not interested in the standalone box or Eurorack, but if I were into Eurorack I would definitely be interested in the Eurorack version.

 Ha! Thats an old video. I have sold the MV to buy an MPC Live, a Digitakt and a DJS-1000 at the time. Then I sold those to support my electric guitar fetish. Nothing but amps and pedals in my studio now. Ok, maybe a couple Volca Samples and a PO33KO for that beatmaking fix.

I think the SP404mk2 will be the nucleus in my setup.

People want to know the mojo about SPs.

Well, for me, it began when I was making beats with 2 double cassette players and a turntable. I would record loops and splice tapes with school supplies. It was tedious work, but the prize was the finished beat and the props on the block.

After years of splicing cassettes, I unknowingly developed my own workflow but felt there had to be a better and easy way. No internet then, but we had beat magazines and inside one I saw a sale for a Roland MS-1. A broke teen, I just folded up the magazine so the MS-1 ad would be the front, and I just walked around staring at that picture. Everybody be like "watchu looking at?" and I show them the MS-1 ad. They be like you can't afford that. But my father, saw me staring at it and he heard me rap before and he said, "is that what makes rap music?" I said yeah, but its $499, I just like to look at it.

Then on my graduation, my father hands me the MS-1 in an all japanese lettered box. The manual was the only thing in english. I was on cloud 9. I was like fuck the prom, fuck the going away party, I'm going home to make beats! And they did threw me out the prom but thats another story.

Off the bat, the workflow was like my tape splicing editing. Then the manipulation of the pitch, it relieved all my duties. Now I can chop and not worry about bloody fingers or missing a downbeat due to the blade cutting too far. MS-1 brought my workflow up to lightspeed!

When the SPs arrived, they were upgrades to the MS-1 and maintained that flow I grew up on so I been stuck on them for that. When they removed the Pitch/Speed it bothered me and messed up my flow, so I went to other samplers for that to accommodate my SP.

Now, 7 SPs later, this could be the successor to the MS-1.

Thats why I am SP than MPC. MPC is cool but SPs are my workflow of guerrilla sampling and crazy chops.
