I've never used logic but I hear it's Garageband in steroids. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new toys.

if you need any help with logic, just post your questions here.

some basics:

your main weapons are going to be track automation, inserts, and the sample editor.

track automation can be found under the view toggle, and once you activate, make sure you tell it to apply to all tracks, and not just the current track.

track automation will allow you to automate volume, panning, and the parameters of any insert you choose. it's basically like having invisible robot logic fingers turning the knobs for you, at the exact moment you tell them.

inserts are just effects. all the basics are there; reverb, delay, etc. etc. there are usually multiple modules for each effect, simple and complex ones. they are pretty decent, and can be automated, more importantly.

the sample editor, which will be invaluable to you, is exactly what it sounds like. it only applies to audio files, and it will allow you to normalize them (bring the audio level up to normal standards/volume), as well as reverse, fade in, fade out...etc. what is most handy, under the factory toggle, is the time and pitch machine...which allows you to stretch and shorten audio samples to fit various parameters within a specific bpm.

so if you have a sample that occupies 2 bars at 115bpm, and you want your project to be at 125bpm, but you still want that sample to occupy 2 bars, you go into the pitch machine and shorten it.

it will look confusing, because the pitch machine breaks down the length of samples into bars, counts, clicks, and then a fourth, ridiculously small number that i dont remember the name of.

but basically youll load in a sample, go the pitch machine and it will look like:

1 2 0 72

(as a example)

so that would your sample is a little over a bar, and two counts. say you want it to be 2 bars total.

you go to the converter, and tell it load to convert it to

2 0 0 0

and it will be two bars exactly. if you wanted 2 and a half bars,

2 2 0 0

etc. etc. etc.

the sample editor will be sooooooooo handy for editing samples to go on your SP.

edit: you can also load entire songs into logic, open up the sample editor...high-light portions of the song to create stabs, or loops, and then using "save selection as" under the audio view toggle to save that portion, and essentially create your own samples like it was fucking nothing.

MUCH MUCH MUCH more handy than doing it on the SP with vinyl... you gotta have respect for people who sample only on vinyl, considering i could replicate what they do more precisely in minutes in Logic.

You'll pick up the basics of Logic pretty fast (within a week or so I could do the basic shit)

You'll know every little detail in Logic before the end of the year.

Enjoy it.
