So Guitar Center's website has some real insanely cheap deals on gear from time to time if you're looking for something a little weirder. I got my MPC1000 there with maxed ram for 300 and I've seen SP606's on there in the 100-150 range. So I got this crazy awesome rad slept on 80's synth, for fucking CHEAP! Got a Korg DSS-1 look it up, it's fucking AMAZING! This thing can sample, and use the samples as oscillators in synth patches. When using samples it can do forward reverse looping and has crossfade settings for clickless sample looping as well. It has waveform drawing and additive synthesis! AND it has an actual analog VCF filter as well as a separate full delay on each stereo line. In short this thing can do all kinds of badass stuff that I've only ever found in software and then it goes through an actual analog filter at the end.
So where does the complaining come in? These motherfuckers didn't ship it with a godamn power supply. This synth has a weird power supply that only a few pieces of gear used. So I call them up and politely ask what the fuck, and they are basically like well you can always return it to the Guitar Center in your city if you're unsatisfied. Until I reminded him that the power supply for this synth worked only with this synth and that in order to have tested it when buying it into the store it must have had the power supply, and they obviously just lost the fucking thing before shipping it. So then homie changes his tune and says he's gonna send me a power supply, so it all works out in the end and overall I'm happy cus I got this rad synth for cheap. But I'm bummed cus they don't know how long replacing the power supply is gonna take and this synth is HUGE so every morning I have to look at this thing and I can't use it yet.

Dude,

I bought an MPC 2000xl for $300 from them used, it came with an akai case and was near mint. I bought the 2 year warrenty. The screen started to go out like they do. I called them, they said send it in and they would fix / replace the screen. I ship it, and three days later I get a voice mail saying they could not fix it, they had to throw it away but were going to give my a $300 dollar Guitar Center gift card. I lost my freakin' mind. I could not get it back. I told them on the phone, 'I would have replaced the screen my self if know there was the slightest possibility that I would not get my gear back." Fuck them! Im still pissed.

jesus... Whats the point of getting the warranty from these guys if they're just gonna throw fixable gear away?! I did get them to extend the return policy so my 30 days starts when the power supply gets here. But those kinds of concessions to fix problems they create shouldn't be necessary.

Fuck, power supply gets here, and the floppy drive on the synth is burnt out. And its the kinda kooky 80's os where you have to be able to save and load to fully use it. You cant just make a patch without the floppy drive, you can make something playable but not a whole patch. Replacing the floppy wouldnt be that expensive or hard, but what i payed for it from GC is really comparable to what they go for on ebay fully functional. Returned it today, think im just gonna try and get an akai miniak when i get my tax return.

I've had good experience with GC's used section. The website isn't terrible to check once a week for what I'm looking for and you can even setup RSS feeds. Just remember that they're not decribing the item on the site and you need to call to talk to someone and get their word on working pads, cosmetic wear, and what it includes.

Different buyer protection than eBay but if you live near one it feels a bit more reliable and predictable to me.
