Thinking about picking up a Dr Sample 202 from craigslist. I'm wondering how the pitch is with this thing, i've read on the forum it's got one of the better pitch functions out of the SP series but I'm curious to see if it will basically give me the same result as Ableton's transpose/complex pro pitching. 404 pitch is cool for certain things but also sounds kinda crazy lol.

I've tried to get a better feel of the pitch by watching a few youtube videos but they didnt do the best job demonstrating. Just looking for opinions if you guys have any input. Thanks!

PITCH FUNCTION IS SOLID ON THE 202
IT PITCHES LIKE A TURNTABLE WOULD AND DOESN'T DISTORT THE SAMPLE
THE 202 IS GRITTY THO, SO U GOTTA BE COOL WITH THAT

I bought it for the pitch funtion alone but it works more like when you drop a sample into "Simpler" the tempo changes when you change pitch.

on the 202 you can change the pitch in small steps. it's not seamless. but it was ok for most of the stuff i did. sometimes even better than having 100 cents for pitching because you are limited and don't spend hours for pitching that one stupid horn sample:)

SP-202 is BOSS' version of the MS-1 minus the sequencer, plus effects. Gritty sounds for sure, only SP with pitch tuning. Roland was eating shrimp fried assholes when the replaced it with timestretch.

yeah I was actually gonna mention the MS-1. I used the MS-1 with the 303 to cover the pitching.

I believe those Micro BRs can do it. I had the 4 track version and I was able to slow and speed up the songs (not tracks themselves), but it was timestretched not pitched. You do have pitch shift if you need it.

The ZOOM R8, same thing. Timestretch, but includes pitch shift effect if you need it.

There's not many hardware in this age with real pitch tune like a real turntable. Have you peep the Numark NDX400, its a cdj with -+100% pitch tuning and its excellent. Just a hundred bucks less than a BR and a R8.

What I do is burn folders to a CD on my laptop and put it in the NDX400 and sample pitched tunes into the SP606.

Its all on you.

Pretty sure ES1 can pitch like turntable cause it's successor the ESX does.
