ive been fucking with the 404. for a while.
my 404 started malfunctioning. every now and then so i copped a 2000xl before it fucked up...i spent days and nights on it. doing nothing but experimenting . and learning from mistakes. i must say.
i prefer the 404 over it. i love making super layed up drums and fucking with noterepeat aswell. but i feel like im working in a office... haha rather than being free. sooooo 40404040404040404.

im about to get a new 404. i was wondering if the sx was too highpitched. fuck sd cards though it would be so nicee. sound is my preference at the end of the day. i would go for a 33. but im stuck on the 20's effects. haha so ill get that later..

hard to say... prob worth it to get the SX, but if you really liked the 404 then maybe youd miss it?

Yeah since I got my 404 I haven't run any sounds in or out of my MPC60II. The only thing it gets used for is sequencing the s950 and MoPhatt. Only reason I'm still using the s950 is because I've spend about the last 10 years building sound libraries for it. If I was just starting out in music today I reckon I'd be pretty happy with just a 404. But keep hold of that MP if I were you, best sequencer the world has ever known

I don't know if the original 404 sounds better than the SX or how hard it is to get compact flash cards anymore. But I got the SX and I really can't overstate how nice it was coming from floppies to SD cards.
