for years and years, people tried to figure out what sample havoc used for mobb deeps "shook ones pt.2"- and for years and years no one,i mean no one was able to figure it out-I guess someone named "bronco" from www.the-breaks.com finally figured it out...i found this a week or so ago, thought it was really interesting.

holy shit! Nice Find! One of the great hip hop albums. Most cats done even know about mobb deep so its funny to hear about em in the forum. Skipped over juvenile hell, started on infamous and stayed with em till about murder musik. Havoc always came right with the beats tho, crazy that all the time it was a herbie hancock piano solo.
Dam man, you took me back! Drink away the pain! Eye for an Eye! And that track at the the end of side one on the cassette witht he isley brothers sample (cant remember the name but it was a whole story and they had another version on Hell on Earth).
Infamous is the 2nd cassette i ever purchased, the first being Ol' Dirty first joint.
Ill take it back a little as well

Yea...I mentioned in another thread that 93 till was my second favorite beat of all time-- shook ones pt. 2 would be my first-it's so simple but has such a dramtic, addreneline pumping feel to it-when i saw this vid.,it really made me wanna fuck with making a super-slowed down piano beat,lol-honestly-I always thought it sounded more like a guitar sound than a piano....?Mobb Deep definitely made some classic shit,to put it mildly-but I can't wait to hear some NEW material from prodigy-his time in the pen-while completely unwarranted with waaayyy to long of a sentence-has finally made him realize he was coming over the top with all the gangster & gun talk & now he says he really wants to focus on making more uplifting & thought provoking politically and socially conscious stuff.

I love Nas' lyrics on "it aint hard to tell"- but personally i never liked how large pro used that michael jackson sample (human nature from thriller,i think?)-then again,it was the first single, and the one attempt to get some commerical crossover shine. My favorite joint from Illmatic is one that's not mentioned much-"Memory Lane".

Aww man, Memory Lane, best joint on the album. No one really says much about it but i like that one the most. I didnt really dig "It aint hard to tell" till i saw the video on like MtV Jams or some shit. How grimey it was, i was all about those old school videos with cats rocking 16 inch timberlands and first down coats and army fatigues. Like most of Wu-Tangs first few videos. Souls of Mischief made some pretty classic tracks too. I only dug the album with 93 till infinity on it but the other stuff was pretty ok too.
I got into hip hop pretty late, i grew up kind of sheltered and i remember the look on my moms face when she walked into my room and heard biggie say "you look so good, ill suck on your daddys dick". So now i spend a lot of my time catching up on old shit, Digable Planets, Black Sheep, Black Moon, Grand Puba, Eric Sermon. See what was going on back then and all the stuff i missed out on.
I ran into some website that had a lot of the old school artist and their videos and a little bio. No ads, no nothing, just information and a lot of it. Ill find it again. But it sort of put me on this journey back in time to peep the game when it was (I believe) at its peak.

Biggie really said "you look so good i'd suck on your daddy's dick"? Wow-that was stretching it a little too far in the trying to be clever department...& more weight for my arguement that he was no way as good or important of an m.c. as pac...as far as souls-yea,it was a huge disapointment to me when the whole crew pretty much abandoned the sample based production, when it was the albums from the early nineties that made heiro legendary, i never got that. Recently they've been back on that shit though, del did a dope album with one of the cats from artifacts-i think el the sinsei-& souls recent album "montezumas revenge".Anyway-think i'll go find the link for memory lane & post it up here...

It's still completely mind bending to me that nas wrote these lyrics as an 18-19-20 year old...in the early nineties.

nice :D

i like mobb deep is well. Me and My Crew from Juvenile hell was dope.

Off of "the infamous" i always liked the track party over.

i like the tracks that have that dark rugged feel.

Haha I never realized that that was the original "Rhinestone Cowboy" mystery lol lol. Mobb used to be my ish too back when I was younger. I went from Juvenile Hell up until Murda Muzik. I think had accumulated Amerikaz Worst Nightmare or whatever it's called too somehow. Never really listened to it though. The Still Shinin' 12" was one of the first records I ever bought. I used to tear down my house with it.

I always liked Hav's production, and when I started getting into sampling, I respected him even more. When you hear what he starts with and compare it with what it becomes, it's nuts. The way he just breathes that vibe into the tracks is amazing. Infamous is definitely one of my favorite albums at least production wise.

tame one-right..i sisn't think el sounded right. Thanks for that--everyone should check that album out,it's the dopest thing del has done in years and years, and way better than the majority of his latest solo release.

As far as havoc-as classic of an album as "infamous" was...he never really matched the dopeness of his beats from that era again-also,q-tip played a huge roll in guiding hav on infamous, and produced 3-4 tracks on the album himself- tip,I would definitely consider one of the greatest producers of all time-he had such a larger influence than most people realize-i wasn't aware myself of quite everything he did in the 90's till recent years...but when people bring havoc into that discussion,i gotta disagree. He fell off seriously as a producer imo after "hell on earth"-and at this point, besides some of that albums and infamous joints, the best beats prodigy's ever spit
over have been done by alchemist.

Still you, can't take away from the genius of shook ones 2 and survival of the fittest,etc..

Illmatic is a very lyrical album. I could never understand how he was coming up with those rhymes back then, when alot of other cats were on the O-key-doke, sounding like each other and spittin those super-hardcore raps. Heltah Skeltah, Wu, Mobb, Onyx, etc. I was never really into Jay-Z, though i knew he was good, could never vibe with his money language and club music. Nas has always had a place in my ear, until he started making albums with multiple producers and alot of digital beats, just couldnt vibe to it anymore. "Illmatic" and "It was written" will always be classics.

nas no doubt to me g.o.a.t. on the strictly lyrical side of things-when he's at his best, there's absolutely no one touching him-& it's not just his rhymes, but the structures of them and the cadence-you never know where he's going bar to bar...also just his voice.the most incredible thing about illmatic though,is just how young he still was..i mean wu was all in their late 20's when they came out-besides rza when he first dropped as prince rakeem-but even then he was older than when nas dropped.
