I thought they were cool at first, but in this day and age their homophobia was a really big turn off. You can't call someone a faggot these days even if you don't mean it as a slur, it is one. I feel they are not just ignorant, but I felt some real hate behind their words.

they are alright. but the fact that OF isn't discussed much on here just shows how good the taste of the average member is

just imagine those kids coming out in the 90's, or even the early 2000's. they are pretty dope, don't get me wrong, but I feel like I would eat those kids for breakfast and I'm just another underground emcee struggling to come up. I think that since there is really nothing lyrical or remotely underground sounding in the mainstream focus these days, these kids are getting over hyped - because they are filling that void. But honestly I could list off like a dozen groups you never heard of from the Philly/Camden area alone that exist in a different universe when it comes to making Hip Hop.

the bassy synthed out beats are cool, but not even close to the best in that niche of production. the lyricism is not impressive beyond the fact that they can rhyme a lot of words and sound cool, nor are any of the flows really ground breaking. plus the whole lets say we are satanic and strait edge and rap about rape and shit just to be different is mega corny. people say well they are young and immature..but I say look at the music that Nas and others were making at a similar age.

just my take. go play some Lamar Kendrick or Big Krit among many other cats that got soul and substance if you wanna hear good new hip hop

props to Tyler tho. that cat is obviously a fuckin genius, not necessarily musically but obviously just a really smart kid b/c I think a lot of their success is built around how they have crafted their image and promoted the brand and all that...so just to be clear, I give them tons of respect and props for doing what they are doing - but NAH they ain't all that when it comes the music

Tyler, Earl and Frank Ocean kill shit. The only reason people can hate is because off the buzz that is created. When you hear stupid people mention them it might create a turn-off. But this is not their fault, they are still the same talented people. It's just the spotlight effect.

yea a lot of the negative reaction is based on the buzz b/c it's out of proportion with how good they are.

I liked them when I first listened but it faded quick, Earl is prob the best but everyone was wilin out over some line about jackin off to asher roth with apple sauce and i was like ahahahhahah we would fuckin laugh at someone kickin that in the cipher like what are you babbling about with that corny shit

Tyler will become famous and most of the other guys will fade into obscurity.

The only one I've heard that I enjoyed was Earl, but he's not even around anymore.

And I fucking hate their beats. Too simple and lo-fi.

Or what seems to be sincere homophobia. I really liked them but stopped listening after a couple choice lines kind of turned me off. They remind me of cool kids with a "hardcore controversial" gimmick instead of an "80's early 90's" gimmick. I think they are poised for their gimmick to go stale and fade away just like the Cool Kids.

when i first heard of this group i was mostly just diggen tyler. I liked how he had his own style when he rapped and wasnt tryin to sound like anybody. these guys have worked there way into a niche in the industry. they have a different type of flow and that electronic minimalist sound that everybody craves for.

i was trying to think of who these guys reminded me of and its the cool kids. i could remember being a party a couple of years back and they were the shit. there were people singing along to the words and breakin it down to it. I thought that this group was going to do things but a gimmik always seems to fade away.

has anyone heard of open mike eagle or some other l.a. guys?

to be honest I've been listening to them for a while now and I still think they,re dope. I gotta admit that just few beats are really sick (Loco by mellowhype / Tanggolf by domo and hodgy and some few more..).

Lyrically speaking they all have their strengh. Tyler is has good strutures and his constant references to pop culture are nice, his real power is defenitly I think, is in the character and the whole story with his father and relationship with ex GF. Tyler has some pretty dope song structures also on some stuff.

Hodgy is pretty dope all around, cool flow, nice lyrics, but pretty regular, He isn,t as orignal as Tyler or earl anyway but I enjoy his stuff alot.

Earl is obviously the best in the tech lyric stuff in OF. wordplay, whole song structure. His first album is quite good lyrically speaking but the beats are nothing special IMO. they're ok or maybe simply not my taste.

My personal favorite; Domo Genesis. Really laid back, lyrics are simply fun and good flowing. nothing to complicated there. there quite some cool wordplay still but prolly less then everyone else. the beat son rolling paper? I LOVE THEM!
supermarket, listen to that shit! last joint is sick also. i wouldn,t make beat like that but they,re ill.

As for the whole homophobia shit, I think really think it,s homophobia, I think it's more about the fact that in the time we live right now, the word faggot just lost alot of it's strenght and is way more commonly used in the younger culture as a random diss word. I don,t know I coudl really tell by thie attitude and fact that i saw multiple interview of them that they don,t give a shit about either race sexual choice and anything. Tyler is wierd in interviews tho. but still. I think they,re pretty fresh.
