I wish Roland would make this. Something cool you could carry in your pocket or throw in your backpack. I would buy this in a heartbeat. If we can make nanorobots, we sure as sh*t can hook this up.

Ideal for people making beats at the park or on the bus on the way to work. Maybe for cubicle workers on their lunch break.

Maybe have something with pads that are a quarter of the size (3 x 3 grid). Velocity sensitive would be nice, but not crucial.

Keep the three knobs for MFX control, but make em a little narrower and lower profile (like the monotron knobs, maybe). Have all the same effects as the SP-404, but only just one MFX button. Better have OG Vinyl Sim and DJ Looper, too.

I could care less if it had the sequencer, but if it isnt too much trouble, include one.

Make it still have an internal mic, but change the input/headphone jacks to 1/8" instead of 1/4" to save space/lower profile. Make the input jack a stereo one and ditch the RCA's as well (you can just use a Y adapter if necessary).

Make all the command buttons the size of the "start/select" buttons on the NES controller.

Just have an internal memory of a gig (no cards).

Two to four banks for samples.

Have it run off 4 AAA's or better yet, an internal lithium ion rechargeable you can charge via USB or AC adapter.

Mini USB jack to drag/drop samples to the thing.

Midi isn't necessary (to help keep board small), but if included achieve midi control through USB port.

Allow for external recording while resampling. Sorry...had to get greedy and request this one.

Size-wise I envision the same width as a Mini Kaossilator, but maybe double the width for the length. Same height as a Mini Kaossilator (for the batteries) plus the height of the knobs.

Retail price $200-$250.

greatest idea ever.. could also be an interchangeable mp3 player that u could sample music from while being able to change the pitch/tempo/speed of your mp3's?
this def has to happen tho. I NEED to be making beats on the bus dammit!

99 banks would be cool, and sample output to pad.

I "designed" one of these for my graphic design class a few months back. I called it the "SP Mobile"

I have a 404, too. Just think it would be cool to have something even smaller that you can maybe fit in the side pocket of your laptop bag. Something to take on a flight. Little inconspicuous pimp machine.

Be nice if it was a new sampler, like "707" etc whatever new ish comes out... but its a new advanced hardware sampler with a removable portable one. Like the new laptops that have a removable mini tablet. But roland's not good at killing two birds with one stone.

I do like that idea, but it sounds expensive. I was envisioning a 404 jr that also costs junior, too.

Where can we get the scoop from Roland on what they are working on, anyway? I checked the NAMM site and it appears there wasnt a sampler in any of their new isht.

roland is excellent at killing multiple birds with one stone,

look how many features they kill with the release of a single updated/new product

This is my completely random paranoid side talking- anybody ever wonder if there could be a possibility of samplers also being like a tapped phone, and anytime they're activated they could used for surveilence? :x :|

Yah, I was gonna mention this too. I've kinda stopped using my iPod touch lately and just rock the iPad now. It's portable enough for me.

i was trying to think of how to hook up my 404 to record and thought it would be cool if it had a wireless audio connection. like dial into an fm station and it will play, then i thought what if it has a radio connection that transmits all your shit to a super database of every sp beat ever made, then i tripped out because the built it mic can pick up super high pitch electronic dog whistle tones and then convert them to audible tones, real fucking crazy ass sounds, then I looked at the back and it has a fcc compliance section engraved on the back, something how it can be intercepted or remote shutdown.. ha

Having sold my SP-404 a few weeks ago I would probably buy a Mini SP in a second.

So far the Android beatmaker apps have been somewhat disappointing or very 'alpha stage' and barely usable.

We need something like the Kaossilator or Mini KP for sure, but with full features and not something that's almost a toy gimmick.

@ Crunk-I've always wondered what the fuck the fcc would have to do with every last peice of audio equipment of any kind-their stamp is on everything....kinda weird, doesn't make too much rational sense. But what can you do but say fuck it.
