well when i did pawnshop digs that was in the 90's so they wasnt hip on that equipment really and alot of the machines were still in stores. now that they know alot of these machines stop gettin manufactured and is a novelty. they tryin to cake up. but in 2003 the homie found an esp plus a shoebox of floppies for 50 bucks he thought it was broke cause a disk was stuck in the drive. he got and the disk popped out worked perfect. u never know man something may slip through the system at a pawnshop

no i def hear that.... and thats why i still check out them at least once a month (not nearly enough to REALLY find stuff) but it seems super slow around the way for anything i want. the stuff i do find is over priced.

I missed out on a couple of come-ups at the local pawn shop. A DR-202, Ensoniq EPS, MPC 2000, and OG blue Yamaha DJX keyboard were all in there at some point in time.

I remember the asking price for the MPC 2k being $200, the DJX was $150, the EPS was $50, and the DR-202 couldn't have been more than $60.

Missed out on some real quality gear. I did cop my second MS-1 there for $40, though. An acquaintance has the EPS in his garage/storage space just sitting and collecting dust since he doesn't know how to use it. Too bad I have no way of getting it.

I bought my microkorg from Guitar Center. When I called them asking about it, they told me that it was on a 14 day hold to make sure it wasn't stolen. They told me that they could hold it for me if I put some cash down. When I went there I found out that it wasn't a used but was a floor model. I made an 0ffer 0f $260.00 USD and walked away with it. Guitar Center, in my opinion, is a good place to haggle for equipment. I hope things go in your favor!

I got my sp 555 from guitar center and i had to deal with a know-it-all-crackhead. Trying to tell me that its not what i want for what i wanted to do. All i told him is that i wanted a sampler to sample sounds and play em and he swore up and down it was the wrong machine. Then he tries to get me to buy reason. Showing me all the synths n shit, treated me like an idiot like i just woke up and wanted to get into music. Im like " ive been downloading hacked Reason and Fruityloops since the shit was first created so im not slow". He kept sniffin n shit, talkin all fast, tried to get me to buy Reason and that Korg nano. Maybe they work off commission or something, i dont know. Fuckin asshole was a pain in the ass. Everyone i came to contact with in those shops are DICKS, like shoppin for a computer in a BEST BUY, everyone thinks everyone else is an average consumer.

An eps for 50 bucks???!!!! Damn...

But yea, I couldn't immagine anything worse while shopping for a sampler having some rock geek that knows nothing about hip hop or sampling tell you how you NEED this or that..especially some damn software...And yea, I would have to assume they get an hourly wage plus commission--then again they're so slow to offer some help, maybe not.

And the 202 is all paid for, just gotta wait till march 1st, apparently,lol.But no more guitar center for me. I'm all about some musicians friend. And for random used equipment/accessories- pawn shops/goodwills/salvies--I've always come across the dopest stuff at the most interesting times..it's almost like a spiritual thing. Well,for me it IS a spiritual thing- just like digging.
