I think the bpm aspect of the MV8800 is a whole lot more advanced, very much like the SP-606 as you can BPM sync. So yeah, it'll show you a BPM number, but it doesn't mean it's always correct.

Does your SP-404 always give the correct BPM, then maybe you're using samples with an easy recognizable drum patterns and appropriately chopped lengths?

As an example, I'd be surprised if the SP-404 would figure out the correct bpm from say a vocals-only sample without any type of help or adjustment.

yes, the bpm given by sp202/303/404 is less correct than the one given by sp505/606 or st224 and esx1 because the last ones gives you more than 3 numbers...anyway, if we try to loop a sample without link it on the bpm of the pattern/sequence, it will always go out of the sync...no samplers is perfect...but what made me crazy about this question was just the fact that sometimes little machines considered as "toys" by some ignorant people contains useful features.

So they clowned you over there at mpc-forums? Yeah, they can be bastards to newbie questions.

An MPC is totally different than an SP though. On the 1000 you only have 24 min. max of sample time and thats with the 128mb RAM installed, unlike an SP where you just simply buy a larger memory card and you get hours of sample time. On the MPC you gotta load and save every 5 min during and in between projects and when you turn it off and turn it on, you gotta load the programs and samples all over again. With SPs, as you know, your work remains ''as is'' when you turn it off and then on.

MPC 1000 is a dope machine no doubt especially with the latest jjos which makes the 1000 even more easy to use but the above statement stays. The sequencer is a powerful piece than an SP I must admit, and with 32 polyphony you can make something really epic and huge.

If you do get one, get the pad sensor upgrade, the 128 RAM and jjos and you'll be good. The thing about the mpc-forums they want you to know your machine before you ask anything because they love to hate and love to flame new jacks.

ahaha,no
i never posted there, but i read sometimes the comments by newbies and they're not very encouraging how they're treated, so i prefer to be clowned here by friends than there by rough and unkind people...

that was the most shitful part i hated about the mpc; now that i fixed this workflow (programs+sequences) to my head everything is ok...
...but beware to forget to save the work!...

this is potentially very good, but the other day i had only 12 stereo samples and it cannot read them at the same time when the sequence started....it was weird (or: another dummie/newbie question ahah)
