it might have been madvilliany

true they dont stop in the middle but 1:30 2:00 minutes is half or a third of a song to me.

just trying to point out that there are people here capable of better music

kids like blazin pete and euclid to name a couple without making a BIG list

just because someone is on top of the game doesnt mean they are the top player

if you went to a madlib show it would probably be the best show. hes an amazing dj. all of his albums dont just stop, they all flow and mix together amazing. i mean shit some of his albums he does his own instruments (drums stand up bass) even drums at live shows and shit. he taught him self that shit too. he is good at everything he does musically. he is top because he is one of the best.

anybody could produce a couple of tracks that are better than some of his or even better than any top producer. BUT no one on here has and probably never will produce as much GOOD shit as he has produced in his career. he has made so many classic tracks its ridiculous. im pretty stunned that this thread was even created haha.

YNQ owns!
also if you havent heard his blue note recording... it's unreal.
the quasi stuff's definitely got an entertainment element behind it. and the beat konductor stuff is beatbeats x 40. he's basically got his fingers in a ton of different projects that he's created by himself so the YNQ people dont HAVE to touch the quasi stuff unless they want things shaken up a bit and visaversa.
i personally like to touch everything connected to madlib. it all tastes good, but it's always different.

i was wondering if he dj'd cause thats definately the missing piece

i created the thread because i knew most everyone here loves him and i would like to see how they defend him haha

also to say that no one here could ever produce as good as shit is something you should never say about anybody even if they suck. thats like saying to a kid who picks up a guitar "you'll never be as good as hendrix" who knows that one kid might one day be...

and the belief that you can do better than the people you idolize gives people the energy to get better, even if they don't reach that point. i know this because hendrix is definitely better than chuck berry.

I'm curious to hear what specific album it was too...

I can see where you're coming from dervish. The first couple times I listened to the Madvill remix album I was a little turned off by all the audio snippets thrown in. I prefer more beats and less of the vintage/rare commentary or weird commercials and sh*t. I still dig the album, but it's a lot harder to vibe with when he goes into his little audio collage work. It kindof sounds like randomly messing with the freq on the radio tuner.

Yo, thanks for the props Hurling Dervish. I think madlib has a great body of work and I really like the work he did on the Lootpack album using a sp-1200.
It seems he did more of a chopped primo style back then and uses loops on his 303 now because the super long sample time allows it. If anything the Beatles and George Martin should be blamed for establishing that a 2-3 min song is all the average simpleton can pay attention for and the longest a radio dj is willing to spin in a show.

Dare you to say that on stones throw messageboard haha...

Its cool that people can express opinions on here without getting shot down for it...For example I know alot of people on here are madlib fans (I am) and disagree with some of the points made...but everyone can discuss it without getting offencive....thats why sp forums rules, other forums are just not like that..

Intresting topic btw

I must admit that when I heard madlib shit for the first time, I didnt like it at all.
It was Madvillainy.
Yeah, I remember it was my first "DOOM" attempt.
Unsuccessful.

Now, I consider it to be one of the best produced album ever. Plus DOOM became my favourite MC.
Time changes people ;)
( I guess that our sp-community also helped me to start loving MF :) )

peace
