Young Jeezy, I just don't get it. There's no talent there.

Lil Wayne, he actually has some talent. Has giant fucking ego too, and unfortunately MTV/BET just feed it. Maybe after he's washed up and all the 15 year old girls have outgrown him he may actually make something real.

I like Madlib and MF Doom both but I fail to see what all the fuss is about.

Pretty much any rapper that came out after about 1998 is stale to me. Producers however have managed to keep progressing. I don't mean rap/hiphop turned pop producers either (Timbaland, Swizz Beats, David Banner, 3-6 Mafia). I mean the not so MTV crowd like JEL, Prefuse73, FlyLo, Peanut Butter Wolf, etc.

WORD!!!!

Jay-z, Young Jeezy, 2pac, JaRule, Lil Wayne ... in fact, most of those artists using 'Lil' and 'Young' for there names don't really are any good in my opinion. As if there's a connection between name and "fame". :P

I understand why people mentioned dr.dre here, but I definitely think he is or at least was one of the greatest rappers. His new ish isn't very impressive though.

Hehehe, there's a gap between calling someone 'overrated' and really 'hating them', right? No worries there. :P

yo, not to beat a dead horse.

But MF doom has been caught numerous times putting on fake shows. Not showing up and paying an imposter to walk around stage with a mask on pretending to rhyme... I guess you could call it lip syncing but you can't even see his face so that wouldnt make sense.

When confronted about this after being caught, doom said he was "trying out new things" "experimenting".

That's pretty funny. Gotta give him props for masterminding his own thing tho based on many years of observing the game from various angles. He's pulled off some major sh*t. 8)

Hmmm... I'm divided on this one. Dan the Automator definitely made that album great... but as far as Del's stuff goes, I thought it was a perfect compliment for the beats and some of his best. His contribution on Full Circle was weak as hell though... they could've done that ish without him if it weren't for his rep and over-rated status.

i have to say this but... KANYE WEST SINCE DAY ONE. the sped up soul samples of relatively known shyt and his arrogance probably made him a winner. but i must say i do like a fair amount of his work, i just cant buy it.

and the 2pac comment was on point. being a black dude ppl used to trip on me when i would say QTIP was my fav over big or pac shyt MIDNIGHT and DIG Planets first album(the name slips me) were the first cds i ever bought.

i wasnt a dre fan like that growin up cuz everyone around me had it.

i also would like to say the cool kids? i cant say y really but theyve never really got to me.

well said.

I do however respect him a lot more as a producer than an emcee. His "through the wire" gimmick was laughable at best.

yep. For me Kanye is really over-rated. He made some really good beats but his present work is unacceptable for me :P
And another person is Timbaland... I love his joint with Nelly Furtado ( "All good things" ), but his beats are too "plastic" in my opinion ;p

Sorry dude... but your dead wrong here. I think you might be referring to a couple specific cats, but in general, some of the most talented dudes in the game rep NorCal and the Bay. So that "most of the bay area artists" part of that statement is way off.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about all the hyphy rappers from the bay area. Even so, e-40 paved the way for a lot of other people in the game and is an important icon in the history of rap music.

The count is right though, nor cal and the bay area is where its at... amount of talent that comes out of that area is ridiculous.

this topic doesnt hold my attention much... topics like this always get to me somewhat because of how opinionated they are.. my version of overrated is WAY different than the next person or anyone on this board... i cant fathom how someone who isnt making much money off hip hop is overrated... a WACKEST mc or producer thread makes more sense to me than overrated just because its so much easier to point out wack ass tracks or WEAK ass lyrics... thats my ramble

i live in texas and its the dirty south/third coast... i grew up in houston (in the suburbs away from the REAL screw scene) but fuck me if i can turn on the radio and anything hold my attention.. ive lived with cds and mp3s the entire part of my life listening to music.. my first cd was beastie boys..

in my opinion everything i hear on public radio or TV is overrated with the exception of a few times i catch someone im into..

its wack to stop liking someone when they make it big but people always seem to change when they finally make it... at least it seems that way for the most part...

whos had too much stella tonight?? timfromtexas
