not beat tapes, but this is what I've been listening to in the car:

the first Fat Joe album, the second Lords of the Underground album, Illadelph Halflife by the roots, and No Need For Alarm by Del. 4 cds for 4 dollars at the goodwill. stuff i had tapes of back in the day

At home I been listening to the quakers lp, skruffnuck dust's dusty planets, and the new flying lotus, which I keep trying to get more into. totally off topic I know, but flylo could have made los angeles part 2 and 3 and on and on and I would've been just fine with that.

nice choices. yeah FlyLo for me has now become more of a challenge to listen to. I respect what he does now with the more experimental side but sometimes i just want to hear knocking beats only. I love the new LP he put out not complaining but yeah...just my thoughts. dope choices though for sure. cant go wrong with goodwill diggin. :)

I'm trying to get more inspired by this evergrowing stack of vinyl that is accumulating in a pile in front of my shelves.
I bring my PT-01 with me to the store whenever I get some extra dough from my paycheck. I hear some things that are dope and I bring it home. Only it doesn't get chopped up into the sampler and neglected to be filed away in the collection. So there's a heap of records just growing and growing.

So, instead of bumping other people's music, I'm sifting through this massive amount of wax that revealed some impress from the beginning but has yet to be worked with.
I mean, I heard some things on it at first spin that inspired me to buy it. Just need to get over the procrastination and be motivated to work with it.

To stay off topic- yeah I hated the new one the first I heard it. The songs sounded half-written, the electronic stuff was too cute (Tiny Tortures is shit... the bad kind of wannabe IDM minimalist shit) & some of it was recycled from old shit he put out around the time of Cosmogramma (Sultan's Request started out as a beat for a Lil Wayne remix & Heave(n) was a bonus promo video). The middle of the album sounded like he was hardly even there & he left it to collaborators to put some personality into the songs (which Thundercat, Thom Yorke & Daedelus' wife fucked up royally, proving Yorke's human & the other two should just shut up & lay off). Couldn't help but feeling cheated when the first real 'beat' track was tucked at the end of the album. It's not a good album (just OK), its more of a miss-step by someone wanting his family's reputation & realising he got noticed for unrelated reasons.

BUT there's an upside to FlyLo's jazz odyssey, it means he got to make this on the side with totally different inspiration. Heard a bit of it so far & its pretty decent (sounds a bit Odd Future-ish). Check this & download it quick, the links probs won't last too long:
Captain Murphy article
Vocal tape
Instrumental tape

poison the well - tear from the red
a perfect circle - thirteenth step
everything everything - man alive (can't get enough of this one)
DJ Shadow - the outsider (used to hate it, put it on the other day and it was a different record!)

i dunno, all sorts, it drowns out the traffic on the walk to work :-)

i'm not feeling cheated in any way by flying lotus because i'm not into his music that much; but, admitting that "cosmogramma" was his more personal work (the others sounded to me like a mìx of dilla/dabrye/madlib/prefuse73 dipending on the moment), i'm 100% with Unfolding for this last album.

great line!

EDIT
on track 13 of capitain murphy there is azizi gibson (aka loopdiga on this forums), great voice as always. once he told me via PM he had to sign for brainfeeder, now it's reality.

i just got into that express rising over the summer, read about it in the spring and it sounded dope, plus dante as a record collector should be someone we all look up to, dude is the real deal......

so i put it on my phone, and not long after that i had a life long friend pass in a car accident, i listened to it for weeks after that and it really clicked, hard to play it in the car and get others hyped on it though, total headphone/personal music
