dr. dre headphones: $300

dr. dre laptop: $2,200

the fact that 99.9% of the people who buy this shit will never make a beat that's worth listening to: priceless

no but seriously, does this depress anyone other than me? does this make you wanna throw all your NWA albums in the microwave? have you/would you buy either of these items? i demo'd the headphones in a best buy and wasn't really impressed...

credibility killer or genius move?

i'll say one thing, i'm surprised roland or akai haven't done this yet...or is it on the horizon? the the DOOM SP 1000 coming to a guitar center near you...

im kinda on the fence about this... id be excited if bob powers did something like this cuz he's a dope engineer... and dre does know how to put things together also but his job isnt in sound engineering... ive heard that they(the cans) are dope but i wouldnt plop that much down on a laptop unless it had some limited edition type of processor and came w/o all the bullshit software u get from buying a computer...

These are consumer headphones. They are not for mixing or making beats, but for listening to them.

good points niq, i agree with you.

i want to like it, but in the end it leaves a bad taste in my mouth...like why wouldn't dre just make his own company and own beat machine? that i could get behind more than what looks to be like his corporate sell-out payday...and btw if it is his corporate payday, i'm not even so sure that's a bad thing..

if the sp 1000 had doom or madlib's name on it, i wouldn't mind if it was dope... but i'm not paying extra for a name

for the amount of money you are putting down you really could use these during the mixing process (outside of the enhanced bass features). the speakers have to be made of great material so the dynamics should be awesome. i could see these being useful in different situations more than their most common usage which is just listening...

What did you think about the Mos Def & kweli Levis commercial? Or the Common Cadillac commercial? Or the Kweli Bicardi ad?
At least the Dre product has to do with sound.
The headphones are good. Overpriced? yep! So are all Monster products.
But as long as the product is not harmful, I applaud the seller and laugh at the buyer. You'd be good buying stock in Monster at this point.
The Beats are a fashion statement now. Kids walk around with them on heir necks like necklaces, Lebron has them on after every game (after the Heat lose- LOL)
I was thinking of getting a pair for my vocal booth so my vocalists would be all impressed and give a better performance. Remember- consumers don't care about flat responses, smiley-face EQ curves, or legacies.

But I don't know what to make of Dre's new single:

No exactly a trailblazer - You call that a Detox ?

Ugh, can't stand those beats headphones. They make ANYTHING that you listen to sound muddy as shit. Sure, if I'm bumping Enta da Stage or something as bass heavy as that, it would be cool, but acoustic jazz or anything with dynamics? Forget about it. Plus Dre hasn't put out anything really dope since...187. That new single is god awful. At this point, all he has to go on is legacy.

good points HxC, and i agree that at least his product he endorses is music related...or is it?

and co-sign C Scott, i found the dre phones to be super muddy as well...i rock bose phones i picked up used for $75 and they sound great...

i think at this point dre is the axl rose of hip-hop. there's no way he can live up to his hype and i think it really fucks with his music. couldn't agree more that he hasn't put anything dope out in a very long time...like nwa days imo...

I'm a big fan of the Ultrasone line of cans:
http://www.ultrasone.com/
Or some Grados:
http://www.gradolabs.com/

GIve me them and the 12" B-sides to the Chronic singles & I'm good.

Have you ever seen a car driving down the street bumping some shit and it's so loud over-distorting, killing the speakers sounding like wreckage?
Then you're like "how the F can they be enjoying that" then you see the driver bopping his head smiling like everything's OK? Well that's the average American consumer.

Those beats headphones rely more on image and high price bait than the sound. If you could care less about image check out the Koss Portapros. These sound really GOOD and theyre not expensive

Anybody try Skullcandies? I know they are heavily image based but do they perform?
