Anybody listen to much Crystal Castles? I just started listening to them, they are kind of mega lofi electronic stuff...the guy who makes the beats uses a modded synth using a chip from an atari 5200 or something like that. Gives a beautiful lofi sound...i really really love 'crimewave'
brilliance....

my wife listens to these cats... I've really enjoyed what I've heard thus far, but I'll give em a closer look on your recommendation...

another non hip hop act that is coming with some really creative stuff is MGMT. I would highly recommend giving them a listen. Not so much lofi... but a very dope synth heavy approach. 8)

They supposedly ripped off most of their 8-bit stuff. Check out the link below.

hahahaha, u jacked my post! lol probly with something just as good, coencidently i love mgmt too. i realised over the lst 6-8 months that there's a lot of great underground being made in other genres...for me im finding anything from electro thru to indie rock fantastic. Coencidently in Crystal Castles' friends - Klaxons (Golden skans is so nice, reminds me of good times lol) n Late of the Pier - The Bears are Coming is just awesome song writting.

lets turn this into a 'other genres' topic - lets post whats been influencing u past the bounds of hiphop.

man... that's some crazy stuff. reading down on that link a bit there's a link to the blog of an artists whose illustration they apparently jacked without permission (Trevor Brown)... ouch. scroll down about half way on this page to find his take on the situation:

http://www.pileup.com/babyart/blog/?cat=14

that's some bad karma for these cats that'll definitely come back on em. wow... scandalous. I'd have to say that I'm anti-CC after reading up on this. I see kids stealing artwork for their albums and band logos all the time... and it usually boils down to a total lack of creativity and ability to execute their own shit. For me, that level of disrespect overshadows the music.

I'm not trying to come off as a hater, but that stuff irks me (as it may other people on here). I'm sure the controversy has helped them just as much as it has hurt.

Anyone else follow those links? I just spent half of my work day self-educating!

^ yeah man that's some interesting stuff to read

i'm all for appropriation, deconstruction and sampling...but you gotta be artistic with it. stealing whole tracks and pieces of art is just plain uncreative. seems these guys are so stuck up their own arses they don't care...well fuck 'em

I think i recall seeing a vid with Davinci from Solilaquists Of Sound pitching snares way up across his MPC2k and using the tones as melodies...and pulls off full blown solo's n shit. crazy.

Its a shame about CC, i enjoy thier sound quite a lot....all the bullshit they pulled has really tainted the enjoyment :(
