Love or hate the guy he changed the way we are able to create and communicate. We all knew the day was coming, but I didn't foresee it being soon.

Steve, you will be missed.
Rest in peace :(

Let's try to use this post to comment on maybe your first Mac/Apple experience, or maybe how you use them now in your daily life.

He helped create the first "interpersonal" computer that could send audio, graphics and video in e-mails and whatnot.

RIP

1977 - Apple II: First computer released for general public use. Came with a colored graphics, affordable price and small form factor.

1983 - Apple Lisa released. First mainstream computer with modern GUI. The OS code was later used to create Microsoft Windows.

1984 - The Mac was released. First cheap, compact and modern computer with GUI and mouse. You could do design, create digital audio and many other advanced features.

1991 - First powerbook was released. The design of this laptop was much different than other manufactures. Design elements such as keyboard placement are still apparent on today's laptops.

1993 - Newton Message Pad released. Precursor to modern PDAs and Smartphones. It could do email and other sophisticated features for its time.

1998 - iMac released. It was affordable, designed brilliantly and gave Apple a new fan base when Steve Jobs returned. *can we even remember the imac colored George Forman Grills? ;)

2001 - The iPod was released. I don't think this one needs explaining.

2001 - OSX was released. This was a result of Steve's hiatus from Apple in the 90s when he founded NeXt systems.

2003 - iTunes store opens. Finally a legitiment digital way to buy and share music! ..... sorry Napster.

2007 - iPhone released. This one doesn't need explaining either.

2010 - iPad released. FINALLY a tablet that works!!

Also lets not forget about the founding of Pixar. No other animated company has been responsible for turning out as many continuous hits other than maybe Walt Disney himself.

I don't want this turn into a flame war of which company's products are better, or who had more achievements in life. Keep it positive fellas (and ladies if you're reading), we have lost a great pioneer.

RIP Steve. Though it was him (as CEO of Apple) who made censorship a legal thing in IT. So i think what he did was causing serious damage to democracy. So he might've been a talented product designer, but he lost the path in terms of ethics. Anyways rest in peace.

Haha actually i never understood this one. Could you explain this to me? What could the ipod do, what a normal mp3 player couldn't? (Except of not-being able to be used as a data-storage-device)

sorry, no hate, really

an early apple memory was probably circa '93-'94 up in new hampshire during summer break at my boy's family's spot on the lake. i remember us forsaking the outdoor beauty for hours at a time while we stayed in and played this paper airplane game on his mom's mac (possibly a IIGS? can't remember...). the airplane flew around this house, dodging other stationery enemies & shooting paper clips at things. the game was simple as hell i just remember being really impressed by the tightness of the graphics.
