My bad for not relying till now sin, haven't been on here since the other day..But really all I'm using the 202 for is the bass, and a couple of the kicks for layering under ones I pull off my records, breaks collection, or whatever. The rest of the sounds on there aren't anything special to me at all. I mean, yea you can tweak them-but the drum libraries I'm talking about that I use on some shit are actually (for the most part) from other drum machines(kinda like how you were talking about making a library of the 202 sounds then selling it)- much better & classic drum machines with way better sounds-so I preffer to use those when I need to beef some things up,or just tweak the sounds to use by themselves. As far as the whole breaks thing- i think I've made maybe 2-3 beats in the last 4 years where I actually looped a break-BUT I'm starting to wanna incorporate it into my sound more-like putting a high pass break under a programmed drum pattern-or just making a break sound drastically different than its original sound while keeping it intact,etc-also layering the kicks and snares & hats from 2 breaks I've chopped, then using the rolls, small snare hits, and open hats from one of them to crete a new "break"-for me it's not about being lazy,I just love the sound-even if it is just looping a break that hasn't really been used much if at all (as a loop) without much tweaking to it at all-which I'm doing a little of too . I'm really working hard to combine new and old styles in different ways, hopefully it'll show when I finish my projects i got going. I completely understand what you're saying though, and for the most part agree....to a certain extent :) I always respect what you have to say though -but yea,I'll be posting my beat for the vinyl challenge tomorrow or tuesday, every last sound on it is from my record collection (minus my break records and hip hop records),you should give it as listen.peace

Word up man. I think the 202 has some pretty dope drum sounds, the bass is def the best part tho. over half of my tracks I use one of several bass notes that were originally sampled out of that box - I do the 16 level jawn usually for bass. Anyway, I still use a lot of the drum sounds tho, some of them aren't that great for sure, but the 202 has some grit - and when I recorded them out I had them running thru 303 vinyl sim and also tweaking EQ on the mixer I was recording them into, so those joints were fat to begin with after recording...then lil parallel compression blah blah and layering and you good to go. but yea there's at least a handful of snares/kicks and hats from the 202 that still find there way into tracks here and there, especially some of the hats some really grimey sounding hats. But overall you are right the drums can't really compare to hits that come from drum breaks and other recorded music on vinyl, but with some effects work and layering they are useful

Yea - I do the bass levels on my sampletrak-only 8 levels, but that's enough to get the job done..I've also been running my drums through the st at 16 khz ,& adding some lo fi from the sp :) - soooo dope (imo) -I might have to go through and listen to some of those hats & sanres again..but i got so many others that are nicer, espesically after I dirty them up. I do love the bass on the 202 though,& a few of the kicks, that's the only reason i kept it,it's really nice how it's so easy to put the filters on there...such an ill little drum machine.Oh yea,I do like some of the tamborines, lol.used one of those on the beat i posted before last..think i titled the post "the calm"
