I posted this in the other gear part not knowing there was already a growing thread about this Piece. This thing looks crazy. Only downer is in one of the videos this guy says that the sequencer isnt a step sequencer. Its a real time. I dont know what that means???? I am really thinking on purchasing this or another 404(sx maybe) or 303....decisions.

tomorrow i will be camping so i won't be able to play with it much for a little bit. timing in life can be a drag: all the fun things come at once.

a realtime sequencer is the same as the 404's. a step sequencer is what the electribe has (and since there is an electribe for sale then why would give it a step sequencer must be the logic). if it had step sequencer then this would be a beast.

first impressions; it's not as portable as i thought. it's very light and not so big but it seems a little flimsy or at least i wouldn't want to drop it. the keys are nice but they are keys and respond as such. i.e. a light touch equals low volume. it does NOT work like pads which is really all i've ever used before.

i've only begun to scratch the surface (getting the soft to work was a real hassle) but what i've found is the pitch seems to warble a bit as it goes up IF your using voice or instrument loops. going down sounds pretty good. drum breaks seem to give good results either way. there also are a few more button combos to learn than an sp-404 but it seems pretty intuitive. chopping and trimming are both quick, intuitive, and give pretty good results.

i don't know how to say this exactly but the keyboard mode doesn't take into account time varients; so if i go up in pitch a two second loop gets shorter up the scale until it's less than a second. thsi works the opposite way going down. but with one shot instruments (set to loop, i think; anyway i'm not that sure yet) it sounds very good.

also the adapter 100-240volts and the prongs can be adjusted depending on country your in. it's a very musically intuitive machine (which means i should learn a lot) but i can see how this could also slow down a beat maker who likes to bang one out. also, this is really for someone who has a computer to back-up files otherwise you'll be pretty limited. that's all i got for now.

realtime sequencer is not a bad thing, but , ye, a step sequencer is would have be better.

like the size of a microkorg. small enough to put in a case but you couldn't backpack it. basicly it's about the size of three 404 in a row (just a little shorter). speaking of the microkorg; the keys are much better on this thing but the box seems a bit more fragile.

editing is breezy! it's like the 404 with start/end points (fast), the 505 with it's chop recording style and pitching, the 606 with it's computer integration, the 202 with it's 12 and 6 bit processing ability, the 555 with it's looper... it's very dope BUT I really feel there are two things that keep it seperate from any of the sp's 1.) less portable (both size and build quality {but let's wait and see on that}) 2.) it doesn't come off as user friendly, unless you are a well trained musician (which i am not). oh and memory could be an issue for some.

all this sounds good, thanx JBL. except portability. but ok, it's a keyboard.

what do you think about the FX?is the Tweak-thing good? do you find them good/useful?in paricular: is there a good dope compression & looper (like kaoss pad /sp-4044) fx?
