for me, when i sit down to make beats, i wanna just be in that zone. i don't wanna click thru a thousand screens or as hema- says ^^ play something that feelz like a computer w/ pads. other dudes really want that...they wanna know they can do ANY thing, so long as they scroll thru enough screens.

You're both right. The MV does feel like that, even though mostly it's in a good way. It ís something of a prejudice that the MV has a million screens to navigate through for basic stuff making the work-flow slow.

But at the same time I must admit the advanced editing that does involve more screens and what not is sort of the one reason why I sometimes very much miss the direct no-nonsense work flow you'll get with say the SP-606.

But the difference isn't huge if you're willing to spend a little extra time setting up the MV properly before diving in making a beat.

I do agree though, the MV series ain't perfect... yet. ;)

I'm about to buy a 404 or 505 soon, but I'll wait for NAMM to pass by first.

oh - i saw some footage of him on a 1K so i assumed it was his main box.

either way, there are enough other cats that use it to easily find examples of peeps doing interesting things.

i agree with wax, save up a little longer and get an mpc then. youll regret having the mpc with no sp 404. you should almost trade up with wax on the trigger finger and some dough for his mpc. i have a billion things that all run through the sp at least once for effects. but 99 petrcent of the time i use it for everything, if you set up your loops right you dont even need to use the sequencer, and you can get so complex as you build your studio. i usually just sequence my drums and everything else is looped, and if i want more than one effect going ill resample and shit. the mpc added to what you have now would be amazing, cause you could just loop dump onto it. i think buying an mpc is an amazing idea, but i really think selling the 404 to get one is a bad one. having both would be a huge benefit. look at dibiase he uses reason an mpc a 404 micro korg blah blah blah. i think the 404 is a need.

fuck i have so much shit 404/microkorg/mini kp/tf/keyboards/kaossolator/tadscam/turntables etc etc and in the future i wanna add an mpc, i use everything constantly and the only things i wouldnt give up is the 404 and my turntables. DO THE RIGHT THING hahaha peace homie.

Yo! I havent been on the forums in a looooong time. Whats up to everyone. I recently sold my 404....do i regret it? Mmmm kinda. The sp has mad effects compared to the mpcs. I just got my 2000 xl and i fucking love it man. I miss the sp effects because i could really get some dope grimey drums on it. Anyways, get something that you are going to feel comfortable with....anyone can make dope shit on a mp or sp or even fl (nevermind fl...its garbage lol) its all about what feels right. Mp pads are so dope on the 2kxl i love this damn machine but do wish I had the 404 for my drums...dr 303...you were right like i knew you would be....peace out and good luck...doc I know thats not what you go by nowadays but doc sounds dope

Yeah Hi-Phi, I think it'll end up like this. But first Im gonna exchange my 404+TF+QY70 for sp555.
I got 2deep in sp-world to leave it, definitely.

yo, ZNDK17 (:P), I agree about the drums. When I think of sp-effects, the "image" -or rather sound -of heavy distorted drums plus nice filter come to my mind.
However I wouldnt call FL garbage. It's a matter of a habit. Im really used to it's environment, for me it's piece of really user friendly daw :)
