What's good SP FAM it's Schizo-Manic, I'm new on this forum been navigating through the boards checking out the other producers production this forum is not cluttered with the free posting bullshit it seems more straightforward than other forums. Been thinking about picking up a SP404 or the SP555, is the only difference effect wise the SP555 doesn't have Vinyl SIM. Would it be wise to dish out the extra loot and pick up the sp555 I heard the sp555 is better for live performances I really don't plan on doing anything live with an audience like a DJ. I see the Sp404 can expand to 1gig while the SP555 2gigs I just want a simple approach to make sample based music. From an experienced users point of view who used both machines in terms of work flow I'm looking to create that lo-fi gritty grimey old school flavor I want my music to sound dirty as possible. What would be best machine? I know its not the machine but the person using it..

It depends on you really. The only 2 things the 404 really has over the 555 is the compressor on the vinyl sim effect and the battery power. The 555 workflow wise is pretty much the same thing but offers a couple like extra things like loop capture and dedicated sample/pattern copy which is real nice and really saves alot of time and the loop capture lets you do alot more with your patterns. The 2gigs over 1 gig is really useless. I highly doubt you will ever even reach 1 gig using either machine. I use a 512 on my 555 and a 128 on my 404. Ive never reached capacity on either. The usb on the 555 is a really big deal if you are working with computers in any way. If you already have a good audio interface then its not such a big deal. But if u dont have one I would recomend the 555 over the 404 if u plan on getting an interface anyway. The 555 also has a couple real dope effects that the 404 doesnt like lofi compressor and amp simulator. All that said tho... theres still something real dope about the 404. The compactness and the battery power and just the mojo of it is pretty dope. And I love my 555 to death and would probably choose it over the 404 if I had no choice but theres just something special that the 404 has that I really cant put my finger on. Its just dope. The 2 machines together btw are just sick !

Thanks for insight I'm going to get that SP555 I've been at Guitar Center rocking both machines. I think the USB capability would work good with my ableton live setup...

ahhh yes... if your running live also definitely go with the 555 if u can. I own live myself and tho I dont use it for production I experimented with it a little when I got my 555 and its amazing how well they work together. Almost as if they where made for each other.
