minimalism, zen, taoism, etc..

All these things are related in my mind, in a sort of 'beauty does not have to be a complicated thing' kind of way.

I'm wondering if anyone has any links to articles that talk about these things in relation to music..

(Drewzle you out there? you always seem to have a lot of links to various articles)

i read "zen guitar" by philip toshio sudo. it was good; had a really open perspective on music creation (obviously) that could be applied to nearly any instrument. here's an amazon fing:
http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Guitar-Philip ... 068483877X

i also have received a lot of inspiration from brian eno's "oblique strategies", which are cards (and i fink there's an online version) with opaque sayings on them...you get blocked in the studio, pull a card, do what it says. uh...here:
http://www.rtqe.net/ObliqueStrategies/

and, of course, there's the dhammapada, which is obviously not specifically related to music, but certainly has application.

this is the sound of my two cents clapping.

^ yeah, the Oblique Strategies are very nice. they are pre-loaded into Bhajis Loops - one of the strategies appears on screen for you to contemplate while the file Saves. there's been some great synchronicity there, sage advice for my current musical predicament : )

Zen Guitar is a great book. One of the first books I found when I first started playing music, lucky for me.

Dare I suggest The Art of War? Applies to hitting the streets and performing as well as playing music.

And the Book of The Tao, the writings of CHuang-tzu.

The Dancing Wu-Li Masters is about the connection between modern physics and Eastern Philosophy. May be a bit more than you were asking for, but it's very cool to see how the the entire western world's system of thought has completely undermined itself...

btw I studied Eastern Philosophy for a couple years before dropping out (;

I had a professor who always used to say "Minimalism is great and all... until you start to over-do it." Still makes me smile.
