so i prepared for like a month and a half on a little 10 min set for an open mic hip hop night in my town. Was really excited about it as it was all brand new material. Get there and there's not even a set of decks and they had no means of getting my RCA into the desk for the PA. Man i should've realised then that it wasn't a good idea to play, and that it was clearly a night for the organisers mates to come down and MC over MP3s. They hooked me up with a configuration of about 3 mini jack leads, you know what's gonna happen there. Levels all over the place, hiss and noise, trying to adjust it on the SP so missing my cues for my chops. Man, I was the only live beat maker there and i really wish they'd thought about it before inviting beatmakers, they just clearly didn't know what it involved. Anyway, embarrasment logged and filed in memory banks under 'lessons learned', don't work with amatuers.

a similar thing happens to me in september, with a set of ,they said, "abstract hiphop" (?) so people just dind't understood a lot of what's happened on stage, i played my set, then the mcs came and do the rest of the show (people came for that at the end)...they were friends of mine, so i coudnt say nothing, but next time i will consider better what to do or not (but at least they hooked me to a regular mixer man :) )

Yeah man, It sucks when it goes wrong, but it's awesome when it goes well, I guess that's just the game!

The shitty thing about getting screwed over by the sound is that your average Joe will think you're a bad performer, thankfully they didn't announce my name! :-)

Sonically speaking, my gig was ok, but a few people reacted to it. But it's ok , I felt like michael j fox performing hard rock for a 50s crowd in Back to the Future :)

First off, one thing I've learned is to have every kind of adapter and cord possible with you. Clubs always seem short on those. Actually, other than the speakers (and sometimes PA) we usually bring it all. Get this: sometimes we even have to pay to play.

And the other thing, who gives a flying fuck what the audience thinks? It sounds awful but good performers do what they want. Sometimes the audience has to find you. Look at gas lamp killer, dude was booed so many times at first, now he's world famous.
When I play live, people say shit like "well, that was different" or "you don't interact with the crowd." Meh, so what.

i have my brother wich djing, he told me that after he has bought a PA of his own, now he has less difficulty to find gigs (he is house music dj, forget to say that), sometimes clubs or events ask him to bring that with him. And sometimes it's also an assurance that you have a good PA sounding...
