5.0 out of 5 stars I was like, what? Oh no you didn't, Roland SP-404SX!

So, I bought this sampler cause I needed one to sample samples with.
I crack open the box not really expecting much more than a sampler that suited my needs. But boy, if I had known what my first meeting with the Roland SP-404SX would produce, I would have at least showered first, and maybe put on some nicer clothes.
As soon as I plugged the Roland SP-404SX into my system, we just started straight banging out beats! What?......I know! I didn't think it was going to happen like that either! It's always when you're not expecting it, you know?
Seriously, for like the first week solid, we were just going at it like mad dogs or toucans or something. Just crazy noise and lights coming out of my studio at all hours. We did stuff that had me afraid to make eye contact with myself in the mirror, cause I knew I was wrong. Because of the Roland SP-404SX, I had to install a splash-guard in my studio. That kind of crazy, you know?
We did have a little rough patch for a minute when I tried to sync it MIDI with Pro Tools though. I was like "Come on Roland SP-404SX, just try it for a minute." and the Roland SP-404SX was like "100010001100011000!!" Really, it was my fault, I shouldn't have pressured the Roland SP-404SX.
But, we got through all that, I apologized, and things are back on track. Honestly, in a way, I think we had to go through all that crazy stuff in the beginning to get to where we are now. A team.
For the money, you can't really go wrong. The Roland SP-404SX is a nice addition to any studio or DJ rig, nicely constructed and has lots of cool features. It's also become a great friend.

haha, i can't lie, this review helped sell me on the thing back in November. I wish i liked it as much as this guy, though, cause it's just sitting in the closet while i debate on whether or not to sell it.

Hah!
What are the main reasons you don't use it?

I don't use it because I don't need two SPs in the chain, and decided to keep using the 303 instead. The 303 is just better for me because of the 3 recording types, loop point setting, resampling with ext, and the pads feel better. For example, when I record something that I want to loop into the 303, I hit rec at the start, rec at the end, and get a perfect loop. Done. On the sx, it's never that easy, and finding start/end points is a pain cause of the start-over-at-the-beginning bullshit. And the 303 sounds better.

The copy function is cool, the looper effect is cool (though I tried not to put it on finished beats), the filter on the vinyl sim is cool, and the overall speed is great, but I just like the 303 more, so no sx for now. Plus, there is no physical room since I got an asr x pro.

Really, that sx review was how I felt about the 303 when I first got it after years of using mpc 4000 exclusively. I was hoping the sx would be like the 303 on steroids, and it is, but some of the best parts were left out...

I see. Ya none of those things bother me really. I do wish you could resample with ext input at same time though. I have never used a 303 so no exp there for me comparing the 2.

You could sell it, buy a second 303 and use the leftover duckets to buy more wax, headphones, beer, medications, etc.
