i think talent can be gimmicky , because you can swing it however. talent is for 5 year old piano players. I got no time for talent or bullshit. thats why 'making it' would suck . because all these industry vets drinking your fresh justin beiber talent blood. good to make a buck, yeah, but i need to make records and aint got time for this talent shit, bring the skill

some good points dollarllama d.

The thing is like you say, the hype is built up over you- tube hits....How many people who watch you-tube videos are actually willing to go out and buy an album when they can listen to it for free online?

The labels are probably happy with the fact that millions of hits generate mega advertising...which keeps the suits happy.

As far as the artist is concerned its all about self promotion which probably explains why so many bands tour like crazy....I know its not hip hop but look at rock bands like Motorhead...All they do is tour and make albums....I wonder which one they make more money off?

Peace!

im sure the touring makes more ,but i know for a fact them bands have merch like shirts , vinyls or cd's and make a killin off that. going on tour empty handed is not a good look u could double your money in each city.

wish it was simple as just having skill to be noticed or alot of ppl would be in the forefront. at one time it was about having skill and show and proving. hey if you can make it without compromising your soul it's all good. im not a bieber fan ,but he can play instruments pretty good can't deny that. think he was playin drums like at 5 years old too.lol

agreed.
Also
Timing, marketing and appearance are all too important on the
commercial scene compared to the ''skills factor''.

Appearance on tv/radio..:
ugly skilled people < good lookin untalented people

Pardon? Where do you put "talent" & where do you put "skill"? What defines both of those & their differences? Are you saying that trained is inferior to only going with gut instinct?

Not commenting on the Beiber thing, just curious about how you've defined two pretty similar things as being totally different.
