Maybe so..but I swear to god-people need to leave Dillas name out of this "overrated" shit-for real- How much of a catalogue of classic shit does one man need to not continually be called overerrated?ON AN SP SIGHT? Espescially considering that catalogue woud have continued for years and years. If all you're saying is that certain people say they dig Dilla on some trendy shit- and in all actuality don't understand or really feel the music, you're right though.

That's what I think most of us are saying but sometimes it's hard to kind of separate all that from the artist lol. I don't think any of us, especially on this forum celebrating the kind of personal, organic music that we do can say in honesty that Dilla is not a great. It's just everything that comes along with it that turns some people off.

It really sucks though sometimes because I know I want my favorite artists to get paid and get recognition and all that, but damn lol, all those douches that come along with it... it's hard to not want to lock your favorite artist up in your closet or under your bed lol to play at your whim and for those who are worthy. I know its wrong and backwards to be like that lol so please you don't have to flame me, but man lol.....fricken douches. They ruin everything. (Again, I know they have feelings too and I don't have any standing to say whether they really enjoy Dilla or not or to judge their comprehension of his work lol)

the prob i have with under-rated / over-rated producers is that music is subjective.

some cats really and truly dig Dre's stuff (or Kanye's, or whomever). i don't. i fuggin' hate it, and just do NOT get the popularity.

some cats really and truly hate dilla'a stuff (or madlib's, or doom's). i don't. i love almost all of it. some dudes think it's garbage.

i've been around dudes who think everything on stones throw, mush, anticon, etc., aint real hip hop. i mean, i can't even be bothered to argue with them, you know? it's like we're not even hearing the same music....

I Think DJ Premier is overrated, he caused a big evolution in the game, and I thank him for that, but all his beats sound the same to me. Same way of chopping samples and arranging them. He uses the same drumkit in 80% of his beats. It seems like everyone thinks of Premier as the godfather of Hip Hop!

haha, wtf is wrong with some of u. just cuz someone gets respect from a lot of people and has some d*ck riders who don't know sh** about hip hop and are lame a** hipsters doesn't mean he's not a legend. I'm a hip hop head til i die and dilla is hands down my fav producer.

^ thats as versatile as a producer can possibly get while staying true to his sound. the guy was as organic as hip hop could get. He made club bangers, RnB tracks, he invented the neo soul sound, made incredible hip hop music. He was the real deal and for people to call him overrated is completely idiotic.

thats what I'm talking bout. bomb squad are probably the most overlooked, slept on production team ever. the way they combined multiple records to make dope beats on nation of millions, fear of a black planet and their joints with cube was just insane. id say the only person who used multiple records to create masterpieces as well as them is pete rock.

if were being real about this the most overrated producer when it comes to actual beat making is dr dre. for everyone to crown him as the end all be all producer is nonsense. as a sound engineer id say he's the best, if a clean/clear sound is what your going for. every snare every kick every sample just sounds so clean but when it comes to the actual art of making beats and creating music theres no way he's touching pete rock, dilla, erick sermon, rza, primo, prince paul, bomb squad, lord finesse, buck wild, diamond d, q tip, havoc, etc...

also kanye is way overrated by all these whack kids nowadays thinking they know "hip hop". blueprint was really hot, those beats are crazy but thats as good as kanye ever was. his beats suck a** now. like run this town was one of the most overrated tracks I've heard in a while.

kanye isn't even f*ckin with nottz or khrysis

all this dilla hate is truly ignorant. for all u hating on the man cuz he has people who follow trends therefore like his music, i agree that sh** it whack but just keep it real the man is responsible for countless classics. and way i say classics I'm not talking about classics in the rolling stone magazine classic. Im talking sh** that hits your soul. U can't get more heart felt hip hop then "fall in love" by slum or stakes is high by de la or reminisce by mos bilal and common. Even take big artists for example...busta rhymes, common, de la, q tips solo sh**, erykah badu, the list goes on and on, this man was responsible for all those artists hottest records.
