first off, love the MV8800 and its effects, tons of tracks, etc etc.
When I first got it I thought of selling several other samplers that it would/could replace.

Have to say though, recently got a SP404sx, and I've got that bad boy run into a SP555 (for loop capture, or more effects, or sample 404 pattern to 1 pad, or layering samples/drums) , then 1 synth and finally all into a KP3 (for looping more than the effects) and that has been one of the most fun setups i've used in a long time.

Plan on going back to the MV soon (I do miss all the features) but the SP combo is really really fun, kind of nice to get back to a simple setup vs. masterbrain/sequencer running tons of gear at once and dealing w/ MIDI woes.

My 8800 is also been collecting dust. I went back to my 303 1k combo because it is so much fun.

to say a word in favour of big machines :) :
i'm having fun with the mc909.
sp606 and 505 are collecting dust.
i will use them 'cause the only real problem of the 909 is the sampling/saving time. so for a live this is a bit problematic. but on the studio it's a beast.

I hear that, sometimes the MV can be too technical. Sometimes I just want to sample and have fun, so I pull out the MPC500 and SP-606 combo and I be on the experimental tip for hours and hours. The MV gives me that but with some fatigue included that I have more breaks than actually sampling them.
